A reproduction of a Moche statue on display at the Army Museum in Stockholm. A ferocious mythological being from the Moche culture in Peru (c. 500 BC). In his right hand he is holding a "tumi", a ritual sacrificial knife.

At the top of Moche society reigned warrior-priests who presided over sacrificial ceremonies where prisoners of war were decapitated and cut up, after which their blood was greedily drunk. The Moche people possessed no writing system, but their artwork is unparalleled in pre-Columbian America. In the 8th century AD the culture disappeared without explanation.

Moche iconography features a figure scholars have nicknamed the 'Decapitator' or Ai Apaec, it is frequently depicted as a spider, but sometimes as a winged creature or a sea monster, all three features symbolizing land, water and air. When the body is included, it is usually shown with one arm holding a knife and another holding a severed head by the hair. The 'Decapitator' is thought to have figured prominently in the beliefs surrounding the practice of sacrifice.

===

Picaflor colibri rubi : Sephanoides sephaniodes.

===
