Main Falls - Cedar Creek

Today I ventured far up Cedar Creek, scrambling over rocks, through thorny plants and mud to reach a once very frequented waterhole and waterfall that has been closed to the public for about 10 years.

This is the scene that greeted me when I got there.

We've had quite a bit of rain recently (9 inches over two days) - very unseasonable. Anyway, I trundled down to the creek a couple of days after the rain stopped and took a few shots, this being one of them.

Creek Panorama

We had 2 inches (50mm) of rain in about an hour this afternoon so it was off to the creek for me as soon as the rain had cleared. I decided to do something different and go for a stitched panorama.

This is the fourth bridge over the creek and the spot the kidlets swim in when it's hot.

Five 10mm shots stitched together using Hugin for a roughly 180 degree panorama.

Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX HSM lens at 10mm, f22, 4-6 sec per exposure.

Araluen Cascades

Finch Hatton Gorge.

Dad and I set off late in the afternoon to photograph the waterfalls of Finch Hatton Gorge, leaving the family with the cars (they didn't fancy the walk).
We shot two falls, but decided not to go on to the last one as the light was failing and it was another 1.8km from here, mostly uphill.

While wandering up Cedar Creek today I discovered a shallow rock pool. It was just the spot for some long-exposure reflections.

This time with the polarizer twisted around to minimize the surface reflections. You get a completely different feel to the photo.

Whirlpool

Another whirlpool spotted in the creek yesterday, this one next to a spot where the water rushes out from amidst the rocks.

I took a closer crop of the whirlpool and jetstream but felt the wider context shot was more pleasing to the eye.

Also puddling with borders a bit, if only because the black adds a bit more impact when viewed on the default white background.

I'm of the opinion this was the best photo from yesterday's session.

The day after rain

This is the same spot as my Whirlpool photograph but this time the day after we had roughly four inches of rain.

The creek has gone down a little from yesterday, but is still rushing by at a faster and higher level than when I shot "Whirlpool".
