Las Canteras is one of Spain´s most attractive urban beaches, and is regarded as a blessing by Canarian people. This is a long beach of golden sand while a reef known as La Barra protects the waters of the beach and breaks the waves ensuring that the water of the inner lagoon is calm without being cut off from the open sea.

The Town Hall (the Casas Consistoriales) The Bishop's House, (the Palacio del Obispo) and the Cathedral, with its Gothic interior and neo-classic exterior, were all erected here at the Plasa Santa Ana.

The melting pot of architectural styles in Santa Ana Cathedral are partly to do with how long it took to build. Commencing in the early 15th century, the cathedral wasn't finished until 350 years later!

I am not sure but I think this part of the church was lost in a fire in the mid 19th century.

Plaza Santa Ana - Dating back almost 600 years, Las Palmas Cathedral is one of the oldest and most important landmarks on the whole island of Gran Canaria. Saint Anne´s Square was chosen by the conquerors as the nucleus of the first settlement, much of which has been preserved in its original state.

When people see photos from the Canary Islands I guess they don't see many photos like that. I am sorry to but that this is something I saw too often during my walk around in the older part of Las Palmas.

The streets are narrow and steep. My guess is that most of the houses in the old town were built around old trails.

When I saw these kids I started to think about my own childhood and how it must be for these kids to growing up in a place like that. I felt sorry for them because they looked so lonely, but then I realized they had the sun all year around, the beach and the warm sea, so I guess they are fine :)

There is no road that leads to the houses in the middle of this hill so I can't imagine how it is living there. I guess taking out the garbage or running to the store for some eggs might take a while :-)

One of the many sailboat that were coming to Las Palmas those three weeks we were there.

I was not able to see if this boat was named Regina Marie, Mariz or Maria. I am sure it does not matter much to most of us but I would have liked to get it right :)

L. Becker has sailed on this ship so he had the right name for me, Regina Maris :)

One of the many ferries that sails from Las Palmas to the other Islands in Canary Islands.

I took many photos from my cabin window when we were in Las Palmas in October, and though some of these photos were taken from the deck of our ship I decided to call this series "View from my cabin" because this is the view I had when I was there.
