Am 21. Oktober 1922 erwarb der Hamburger Kaufmann Henry Brarens Sloman, der sein Vermögen mit Salpeterhandel in Chile gemacht hatte, seinerzeit mit einem Vermögen von ca. 60 Mio. Mark der reichste Mann der damaligen „Republik Hamburg“, die insgesamt rund 5.000m² großen Grundstücksteile, auf den ein Kontorhaus der besonderen Art entstehen sollte: das Chilehaus - in Form eines Passagierschiffs - entstand.
On the 21st October, 1922 acquired the Hamburg businessman Henry Brarens Sloman who had done his property with saltpetre trade in Chile, one day with a property of approx. 60 Mil. marks of richest man of the " republic of that time Hamburg ", altogether about 5.000 ms ² to the big property parts on which an office house of the special kind should appear: the Chile house - in form of a passenger liner - appeared.
