Beim kurzen Aufenthalt in Vitznau habe ich im Depot den Vorstellwagen Nr.2 der Rigibahn entdeckt. Dieser historische, zweiachsige Personenwagen hat keinen eigenen Antrieb und wurde vor die Loks oder Triebwagen gespannt (vorgestellt). Er wurde bereits 1993 bei einer Revision wieder komplett als historischer Wagen hergerichtet. Er stammt direkt aus dem Eröffnungsjahr der Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn und gilt heute offiziell als das älteste Originalfahrzeug der Rigi-Bahnen. Hergestellt wurde er von der Fabrik der Schweizerischen Centralbahn (SCB Olten).

The Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité (Church of Our Lady) was built in the 15th century. The church replaces an earlier Romanesque building, destroyed during the Hundred Years War. Two hundred years later, the nave, which had suffered considerable damage, was restored.The three-storey bell tower served as a porch. The Church of Our Lady also houses several classified furniture items, such as a master altar, altarpieces, statues, stained glass and paneling. The stained-glass window above the altar is dating from the late 15th century, depicting the genealogy of the Virgin Mary..

En attendant de l'accompagner une dernière fois vendredi, je vais rester à Varanasi. Un hommage un peu décalé car comme je l'ai déjà écrit, il ne connaissait pas l'Inde. S'il n'était pas enclin à visiter ni ce pays, ni cette ville, il aimait que je lui en parle. S'il avait vécu plus longtemps, peut-être aurais-je réussi à la convaincre de m'accompagner en ce lieu chargé de spiritualité qui lui parlait.
Moi, en revanche, c'est la réalité faite de paradoxes et de contradictions qui m'attire dans cette ville. Nous étions différents, mais complémentaires.

Nachdem wir mit der Pilatusbahn, der mit maximal 48% Steigung der steilsten Zahnradbahn der Welt, auf den Pilatus gefahren sind ging es also mit der Vitznau-Rigi Bahn auf die Rigi. Diese Bahn ist die älteste Zahnradbahn Europas. Sie nahm den Betrieb am 21. Mai 1871 auf.

Die zweite Zahnradbahn, die auf die Rigi hinaufführt ist die Arth-Goldau-Rigibahn. Eröffnet am 4. Juni 1875, war die Arth-Rigi-Bahn die erste Eisenbahnstrecke, die ganz im Kanton Schwyz liegt. Ab 1907 wurde sie zur ersten elektrisch betriebenen Normalspur-Zahnradbahn der Welt. Und ihre Pendelzüge von 1949 galten als modernste ihrer Zeit. Quelle

Beide Bahnen haben als Ziel die Station Rigi Kulm, die im Sommer auch mit historischem Rollmaterial (mindestens 50 Jahre alt) befahren werden. 1992 ist durch die Fusion der Arth-Rigi-Bahn (ARB) in Arth und der Rigibahn-Gesellschaft in Vitznau die Rigi-Bahnen AG mit Sitz in Arth entstanden. Der operative Sitz des Unternehmens befindet sich in Vitznau.

Das Streckennetz der Rigi Bahn misst 15,40 km und entspricht dem ehemaligen Betrieb der Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn und der Arth-Rigi-Bahn. Eine Gleisverbindung von der VRB zur ARB besteht erst seit dem 12. Juli 1990 in Rigi Staffel.

I saw one of these in my garden last weekend, but by the time I went back indoors and grabbed my camera it had gone. I've been watching for it ever since, and yesterday afternoon it came back. It stayed for less than five minutes and I managed to get a few shots of it. These are the best three and they're all large crops. Despite a high ISO and shutter speed, I still didn't get its wings in focus..!!

I'm hoping it will come back again and that maybe I'll get some better shots next time!

Nach einer knappen Stunde Fahrzeit über den Vierwaldstädter See haben wir den Anleger Vitznau erreicht. Die meisten der Passagiere haben hier das Schiff verlassen, viele von ihnen sicher, um von hier mit der Zahnradbahn auf die Rigi, die Königin der Berge, zu fahren.
