Though I have it on manual-this and manual-that, on a clear but slightly foggy night like tonight, the camera has a kind of mind of its own when looking at the Moon.

The Moon, by the way, is about 91% illuminated this evening.

This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera with a Super-Takumar/6X7 1:2.4/105mm lens and Kowa L1A ø67 filter using Kodak Ektar 100 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Der Berliner Hauptbahnhof, Europas größter Kreuzungsbahnhof, steht gegenüber dem Bundeskanzleramt, nahe dem Reichstag und unweit des Brandenburger Tors. Er steht nach den Hauptbahnhöfen in Hamburg, Frankfurt (Main) und München auf Platz vier der meistfrequentierten Fernbahnhöfe in Deutschland. Er wurde am 26. Mai 2006 eröffnet und war der krönende Abschluss eines neu konzeptionierten Berliner Verkehrsnetzes. Er wurde auf dem Areal des ehemaligen Lehrter Bahnhofs errichtet. Die Lage des Gebäudes im ehemaligen Grenzgebiet der Stadt hat zudem eine symbolische Bedeutung: Der Hauptbahnhof verbindet die beiden Hälften der einst geteilten Stadt.

Der Hauptbahnhof ist ein filigranes, großzügiges und lichtdurchflutetes Bauwerk. Die Hamburger Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner wollten die Bedeutung des neuen Bahnhofs als Schnittstelle im zusammenwachsenden Europa auch in der baulichen Umsetzung unterstreichen. Die Gleise der Nord-Süd-Verbindung liegen 15 Meter unter der Erde, die der Ost-West-Verbindung zehn Meter über dem Straßenniveau. Die 321 Meter lange gläserne Stadtbahnhalle wird von der 160 Meter langen und 45 Meter breiten Bahnhofshalle gekreuzt. Ein raffiniertes System großer Öffnungen in den Decken aller Ebenen lässt Tageslicht bis zu den unteren Gleisen gelangen. Zwei 46 Meter hohe Bürokomplexe überspannen außerdem die Stadtbahn.

Die markante Architektur des Hauptbahnhofs wurde bereits mehrfach ausgezeichnet, darunter mit dem Preis des Deutschen Stahlbaues 2008, dem Internationalen Architekturpreis des Chicago Athenaeum 2007 und dem Renault Traffic Design Award 2006 für innovative und mutige Entwürfe
