Kroměříž (Kremsier) wird wegen seiner vielen Baudenkmäler oft als „Hannakisches Athen“ apostrophiert. Die Geschichte der mährischen Stadt Kroměříž reicht bis ins 12. Jahrhundert zurück. Bereits zu jener Zeit hatte sie sich im Besitz der in Olomouc residierenden Bischöfe, bzw. Erbischöfe befunden. Die dreischiffige gotische St.-Mauritius-Kapitelkirche wurde noch vor 1262 gegründet, an ihrer Wiege stand der Olmützer Bischof Bruno von Schauenburg (Schaumburk). In der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde die Kirche von einem Brand heimgesucht und anschließend im neogotischen Stil baulich umgestaltet.

Die Täuferkirche von Kroměříž zählt ebenfalls zu bedeutenden Denkmälern der historischen Stadt. Sie wurde an der Stelle einer ehemaligen Kommende des Malteserordens errichtet, an ihren Vorgängerbau erinnern Malterserkreuze sowie auch die beiden Türme. Diese reich ausgeschmückte barocke Kirche war als Bestandteil des piaristischen Kloster- und Schulareals entstanden.

Prague 2009, St. Vitus Cathedral

To many people, St. Vitus Cathedral is Prague Castle. While the enormous Prague Castle complex includes many fine buildings, St. Vitus is the one that dominates the city skyline and is visible from far and wide.

St. Vitus is the spiritual symbol of the Czech state. A Gothic masterpiece, work on the cathedral was commissioned by Charles IV and began in 1344 upon the site of an earlier 10th century rotunda. In all, it took nearly six centuries to complete.

Its first builders, Matthias of Arras and later Peter Parler, built the chancel with a ring of chapels, St. Wenceslas Chapel, the Golden Portal and the lower part of the main steeple.

The final phase of construction only ended during the period 1873-1929.

As well as being the largest and most important temple in Prague, St. Vitus Cathedral also oversaw the coronations of Czech kings and queens.

In the chancel of the cathedral, in front of the high alter, is the royal mausoleum. Below this, in the crypt, there are the royal tombs. Czech kings and queens and patron saints are interred here.

St. Wenceslas Chapel is decorated with frescoes and semi-precious stones. A door in the south-western corner of the chapel leads to the Crown Chamber in which the Bohemian Coronation Jewels are stored.

Die ersten Spuren einer slawischen Besiedlung in dieser Gegend sind schon im 7. und 8. Jahrhundert belegt, wovon archäologische Funde in Obora u Luhačovic zeugen. Während der Jahrhunderte war die Gegend jedoch nicht dauernd besiedelt. Es war ein Grenzgebiet, geplagt von vielen feindlichen Einfällen, welche auch in den kommenden Jahrhunderten das Bauen von Dörfern und Siedlungen erschwerten. Die erste schriftliche Erwähnung von Luhačovice stammt aus dem Jahre 1412. Dies bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass Luhačovice erst damals besiedelt werden sollte. Die älteste mit diesem Gebiet zusammenhängende historische Erwähnung bezieht sich auf Prakšice und Biskupice und stammt aus dem Jahre 1140. Die obigen Bemerkungen über das Gebiet von Luhačovice sind ein Beleg für die allmähliche Besiedlung, welche aus dem Flachland in die gebirgigeren Gebiete gerichtet war. Es hat sich eine Struktur von Dörfern und Katastern gebildet, die ohne größere Veränderungen bis zur Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts erhalten blieb. Die hiesigen Dörfer haben unter den feindlichen Einfällen sehr gelitten. Darüber hinaus hat dieses Herrschaftsgut Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts der ungarische Magnat Pankratz vom St. Nikolaus besessen, der als verhängnisvolle Führer einer das ganze Gebiet verwüstenden Räuberbande berühmt war. Nahrungsquelle in dem hügeligen Gebiet von Luhačovice waren Viehzucht und Obstbau, was auch das Siegel - ein weitausladender Baum mit Äpfeln, rechts ein Sech und links ein Pflugeisen bezeugt.
