Recently I got motivated to again use my Zorki 4 rangefinder (and after getting a FED 2 for next to nothing [got a refund for the whole deal minus shipping costs after I discovered the camera was rather beat up instead of being "in excellent condition", the lens[-cap really] had fungi for example], I discovered how loose the shutter curtains can be on and came to the conclusion that the ones in my Zorki 4 were way too tight (this lead to "banding" of the shots and the infinity setting of the rangefinder getting knocked a bit out of alignment by the "AK-47"-esque slam of the shutter slam at high speeds. Now adjusted and waiting for a new roll).

This is the beer/restaurant boat Cindy which is permanently moored in the river Aura which runs through Turku. In the background the City Theatre. Note the lovely wonky highlights, the halos come from the weak anti-halation layer of the Fomapan 400 film and the Soviet Sonnar-clone being wide open at f/2, I like the vintage look. Shot handheld at 1/30 I think.

Taken on the beach on the westmost peninsula of the island Ruissalo just outside Turku. My thanks goes to Roomeri who showed me this part of the island.

Handheld at f/8-ish, Rodinal 1+25 for 7.5 minutes in ~20°C (not that good result).

One of the more succesful frames of a roll of Delta 400 that was stand developed (that is left to 'cook' for a bit more than 1.5 hours without interruption).

Shot on December 6, 2008 (the independence day of Finland). Some trivia: the rifle on the right is a 7.62 TKIV 85 (7.62mm precision rifle m/1985), a design which uses some parts taken from Imperial Russia-era rifles, thus making some of them well over a century old.

Shot wide open at f/3.5 or stopped down to f/4 due to overcast conditions, hand held at probably 1/125 seconds. Scanned as-is including all the dust (normally I'd crop out the edges). Then a bit of contrast adjustment via photoshop's curves command followed by a local contrast adjustment (unsharp mask, 26% at 26px). Finally a yellow-magenta (highlights-shadows) tint added.

first attempt at a 'real' stand development (agitation only during the first 30 seconds, then left undisturbed for almost two hours in this case) and a big disappointment. I'm not certain what I did wrong, but the roll I shot during the independence day military parade and show has oxidized and didn't turn out that pretty (the grainy result was so-so to be expected). Oh well, images did form...

One of the large heaps of bicycles that have been lifted out of the river Aura that flows through Turku (due to public works renovating/reinforcing the river bank), if one were to excavate a bit more I'm certain the price one could fetch for all the junk metal would be rather substantial...

Zone focused and at best a guesstime exposure.

At the site of public works strenghtening the banks along the Aura river (here next to the city library in Turku, its pilasters can be seen to the extreme upper right). It does not conform to either of the two usual standardized types found in Finland; the smaller european standard EUR pallet [120 cm x 80 cm, standardized by UIC in the 1940s] nor the slightly larger FIN pallet [120 cm x 100 cm, a.k.a. EUR 3]).

TMAX-100 in Rodinal 1+200 for 60min, agitation between the 0 and 30 second mark, then two inversions 5 min later and at the 30 and 45 min mark (in hindsight, 0-30s, 5min, 15min, 30min and 45min might have been better, or atleast something I'll try next time) with the developer poured out at the 60min mark. Thus a bit like the suggestions here at photo.net.

A second test roll from the Zorki-4, this time shot with a Jupiter-8 (50mm f/2 Sonnar-type). First attempt at pushing APX 100 to ISO 400 too, quite okayish I think.

For some strange reason all shots past frame 26-27 have not been kept flat on the right side, looks almost like the lens was tilted, must have been due to the pressure plate or my loading of the camera.

The people in white caps are fresh "abiturs" wearing their newly issued student caps.

developed in ID-11 1:1 (stock) for 16 min at 20°C.
