According to legend, the name Krumlov is derived from the German "Krumme Aue", which may be translated as "crooked meadow". The name comes from the natural topography of the town, specifically from the tightly crooked meander of the Vltava river. The word "Český" simply means Czech, or Bohemian (actually one and the same), as opposed to Moravian or Silesian. In Latin documents it was called Crumlovia or Crumlovium. The town was first mentioned in documents from 1253, where Krumlov was called Chrumbonowe.
Shadows of spring and the Monument of Jan Hus Mystic, traditions and the history of the Czech nation unfold their beauty in the centre of old Prague, every time the Astronomical Clock strikes the exact hour. The history of the square goes back to the 10th century, when the place was one of the favourite market places in the developing town of Prague.

This church belongs to the oldest ones in the Old Town, sources first mention it along a flood in 1273. Year 1635 was in the name of changes - the church went under the possession of the Benedicts Order from the Emmaus Monastery who decided to build a new monastery here. They also planned a large cathedral reconstruction, but they decided to brought down the old church and built a new one instead. The construction began in 1732 and it was consecrated in 1737.
