Lichtenstein Castle is a fairy-tale styled castle located near Honau in the Swabian Alb, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its self-descriptive name in English means "light (colored) stone."

Historically there has been a castle on the site since around 1200. It was destroyed twice, once in the Reichskriegs war of 1311 and again by the city-state of Reutlingen in 1381. The castle was not reconstructed and subsequently fell to ruin.

In 1802 the land came into the hands of King Frederick I of Württemberg, who built a hunting lodge there. By 1837 the land had passed to his nephew Duke Wilhelm of Urach, Count of Württemberg, who, inspired by Wilhelm Hauff's novel Lichtenstein, added the current castle in 1840–42. The romantic Neo-Gothic design of the castle was created by the architect Carl Alexander Heideloff.

Today the castle is still owned by the Dukes of Urach, but is open to visitors. The castle contains a large collection of historic weapons and armor.

1802 wurde ein fürstliches Jagdhaus auf Geheiß von Herzog Friedrich II., dem späteren König Friedrich I. von Württemberg in Fachwerkbauweise errichtet, das 1837 schließlich Wilhelm Graf von Württemberg (späterer Herzog von Urach) erwarb.

Der Graf, ein leidenschaftlicher Sammler von Waffen, Rüstungen und Gemälden, benötigte einen Aufbewahrungsort für seine Kunstgegenstände und wünschte sich dafür – offensichtlich begeistert durch den 1826 erschienenen Roman Lichtenstein von Wilhelm Hauff – eine möglichst authentische Ritterburg. Entsprechend den Vorstellungen des 19. Jahrhunderts von einer mittelalterlichen Burg wurde das Schloss zwischen 1840 und 1842 nach den Plänen Carl Alexander Heideloffs gebaut. In den Folgejahren wurden noch weitere Nebengebäude errichtet, außerdem ließ der 1867 zum Herzog von Urach ernannte Graf Wilhelm, der passionierter Militär war, das Areal um die Burg mit einer Befestigungsanlage nach eigenen Entwürfen umgeben.

Seit 1998 werden der zweite und der dritte Stock des Schlosses restauriert, gefördert durch die Wüstenrotstiftung und die Fördergemeinschaft zur Erhaltung des Schlosses Lichtenstein e.V.

Heute kann das Schloss gegen Eintritt im Rahmen einer Führung besichtigt werden (ohne Führung ist der Zutritt in die Innenräume des Schlosses für Touristen nicht möglich). Alternativ besteht jedoch die Möglichkeit, lediglich die Besichtigung des Schlosshofs auszuwählen, um sich beispielsweise einen Eindruck verschiedener baulich prägnanter Besonderheiten wie einem Kanonenturm u.a. zu verschaffen. Als sehenswert gelten dabei vor allem Sammelstücke wie z.B. verschiedene historische Artilleriegeschütze (Kanonen), die dort ausgestellt sind.
