So Thursday afternoon (about 1300 it would have been) a companion and I decide to go on a trek. But on leaving LARC (the London Action Resource Centre) we realise we're being followed by a couple of FIT officers.
Just to confirm its no coincidence we wander along Whitechapel High Street, then retrace our steps, the back again... and so on.
And sure enough, this pair follows our meanderings.
Companion confronts them.
"No, they're not following us" they claim. "They're on patrol". Even though they're way outside their territory. So what's their beat? "Random patrol" seemingly. Try as we might we couldn't get them to admit they were following us... although quite clearly they were.

Now me, being a proper media-type person, always carries a voice recorder with me. But me, true to me normal clueless self, hadn't actually got it switched on.
So a brief interlude whilst I drag it from the backpack, switch it on, then approach and confront the cops again. But this time, presumably being aware they're being recorded, they're even more unforthcoming, just smiling enigmatically, and referring us to their supervisor.

Do you think we should have told them that we were simply going to the shops for (in my companion's case) some tobacco and (in mine) some batteries?

IV. The demo continues... at Brighton Pier.
Undeterred, and despite diminished numbers, the protest continues down at Brighton Pier. Miles from the EDO site. With little likelihood of causing a major public disturbance or even significant traffic obstruction why then the continued heavy-handed policing?

With the all-seeing eye of the CCTV observing everything it rather begs the question... why the continued presence of FIT?

Wannabee police FIT loitering with suspicious intent outside SUMAC (a perfectly respectable social centre in Nottingham) whilst a few people assemble therein to discuss this year's ('08) forthcoming Climate Camp.
One can't help wonder why, in an allegedly "free" and "democratic" society the cops should deploy such surveillance against a previously-announced legal and peaceful public meeting.
Is this the freedom our forefathers gave their lives to defend against a fascist dictator in the '40s?

Couple of FIT-type cops checking out the demonstrators. Thing was, they were a bit shy so whenever they spotted my lens pointed in their direction they turned away or hid behind lamp-posts or something. And eventually they just lost their nerve and disappeared.
