There was a little akhara upper and as he was big and tall I thought that he could be a pehlwan (Indian wrestler) who comes to train there.
The shots came out in a quite funny way because of his involuntary attitude which was a mix of absurd positions, the paan in his mouth and most of all a langot (Indian underwear) which was really too tiny for him.
I showed him what I was getting on my camera and after a good laugh, he accepted my guidance for a few poses.
On this picture there is still some happiness in his eyes and he is trying not to laugh because of his “chewing session”.

I went into the ancient temples of idolatry; no trace of Him was there.
I entered the mountain cave of Hira and then went as far as Qandhar but God I found not.
With set purpose I fared to the summit of Mount Caucasus and found there only 'anqa's habitation.
Then I directed my search to the Kaaba, the resort of old and young; God was not there even.
Turning to philosophy I inquired about him from ibn Sina but found Him not within his range.
I fared then to the scene of the Prophet's experience of a great divine manifestation only a "two bow-lengths' distance from him" but God was not there even in that exalted court.
Finally, I looked into my own heart and there I saw Him; He was nowhere else.”
(Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi, known as Jelaluddin Rumi - Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and mystic, 1207–1273)

This picture was shot along the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras) where so many things reflect the divine consciousness of human life.

The reflection of the sun in the holy tank was providing an amazing contrast with vivid colours between the background and the turban.

Turbans come in every color and pattern but there are three colors most commonly worn: white, deep blue, and saffron orange.
White turbans are worn to extend the aura and the person’s projection.
Royal blue or navy blue turbans are common among Sikh ministers and gyanis, especially in India.
The blue is the color of the warrior and of protection.
Saffron orange is the third Sikh color and is commonly worn by Sikhs worldwide.
Orange represents wisdom.
Black turbans can represent surrender of the ego.
Other colors of turbans don’t have a significance associated with them.
Sometimes it’s just a case of fashion, of matching a turban to a business suit, for example.

This picture was shot a few weeks ago in front of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest city in Sikhism, located in the state of Punjab (India).
I met those kids a while before as they were bathing in the holy tank, they didn’t mind that I took a few portraits of them.
Later I realized that they were following me around the temple, we took a few shots of all of us, like this candid picture and they kept on asking me so many things about photography, sometimes I couldn’t even find any answer, it was amazing to see how full of enthusiasm they were.
Maybe one day they’ll become photographers...

One more thing, after uploading another picture at Golden Temple, I had funny comments concerning the scarf I was wearing.
In order to clarify, I don’t try to become a pirate (!) but being head covered is compulsory for both men and women when visiting a Gurdwara or any other holy Sikh place, it is a sign of respect (like in many other religions).
You also have to remove your shoes if you enter a place of worship.

Thank you again to all of you for your supportive comments and mails.
Thank you, Dhanyavad, Shukriya...

He was quiet but apparently his mind was traveling from his body to other places that I don’t know so far...
During summers I see more yogis doing the same, I believe that this spiritual practice helps to bear the heat.

This man was floating in the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
He was quiet but apparently his mind was traveling from his body to other places that I don’t know so far...
During summers I see more yogis doing the same, I believe that this spiritual practice helps to bear the heat.
</media:text>

(Titus Flavius Clemens (c.150 - 215), known as Clement of Alexandria)

I have been taking this picture at Munshi ghat along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
I was standing at a lower platform which was at the same level as the holy river and I heard this happy family who was laughting.
This young couple was enjoying the morning breeze with their son, the lady removed the veil from her face.
I was not expecting that silhouette effect, it came naturally as if I had to observe her faith and not be allowed to reveal her features to rest of the world...
It was early on a Friday morning, once “the Lord has turned all our sunsets into sunrise” in the oldest living city in the world...

This is one more picture that I took while going down the stairs leading to the Ganges at Gai ghat in Varanasi (Benaras) but this one was shot four weeks later.
However the same man is sleeping at the same place, he is wearing the same T-shirt and the same necklace and maybe this is also the same fly which is sleeping with him as anything occurs in the oldest living city in the world...

Thank you again to all of you for your kind comments and mails.
I really appreciate your support even if I can’t answer you as much as I would like because of the very bad internet connection here in Benaras and the many power cuts that we have to go through during summers.
Namaste all the way from Benaras where monsoon has reached tonight...!!!
