Aquila e Pantera

This is the border between the Cotrada della Pantera (Panther) and the Nobile Contrada dell'Aquila (Eagle). In the July 2006 Palio the Aquila was first for almost the whole race and the Panther won in the last few meters (literally!) of the race. Needless to say, these two Contrade are arch rivals. Panther never missed a chance to fool the rivals about the unpredictable outcome of the race.
Here, in the days of Aquila's patron saint celebrations in September, they hanged a poster with the picture of the arrival, forcing the Aquila to hang a similar banner with their arms in order to try and cover the unpleasant view of the race result.

The celebrations for the victory in the July Palio still go on, in the Panther. They will celebrate the success on the 24yh of September, with a big dinner in Pian dei Mantellini.
