when we came off the ferry we went to find the english cemetary - on the way I was fascinated by how well these birds could hide, their colour being very similar to that of the pebbles, so I took this shot....

this ferry is a part of the roadplan in sweden, you travel across from gotland to fårö for free - in the summertime, there can be hundreds of cars waiting, but those that live on fårö can jump the line, they have "förtur" like it says on the sign

Among other things, Gotland is famous for their sheep. Instead of using some ugly yellow concrete carstoppers, they have had these made. Fantastic idea and yes, it works, they are able to keep the cars out of streets were cars are not allowed.

Ingmar Bergman lived on Fårö, an island just north of Gotland. A memorial was held here in these church ruins.

First it was mostly a market garden with a variety of fruit- and garden trees and bushes and also a school in gardening.
A fantastic place with many unusual plants.
As we were on a guided tour, there was no time to take photographs of the plants, but I did like this and managed a shot as we walked by.

You probably all know that special red colour from Sweden. In Swedish: faluröd. From the copper mine at Falun in Dalarna. In Visby, I saw something I don't recall ever seeing before, a greyish tone. We were invited on a guided tour of Visby, and the guide told me they used to blend the falured paint with tar. I like it.

Visby is a World Heritage Site, as it should. Right in front there is where the old harbour used to be. Visby was once a center of commerce, with an excellent harbour. But bigger ships were built, ships that draw deeper than the older ones did, and they had to find harbours elsewhere where they could land their goods.

We had to wait a bit before before getting on the ferry, so I walked around with the camera. An ugly place actually, but flowers have a way of surviving, just about anywhere.
