Sewing lesson 01

I figured there might be people who don't know how this works. So, for the two of us:

First I lay out the fabric, slightly overlapping. When everything is in place as I want it, I attach the two shorts to each other using needles.

Resulting in the fabric staying in place when taking it to the machine and bloody fingertips.

This is me on my IKEA sewing machine. It works rather well, I have to say.

First tryouts Closed Shirtain

Although it doesn't look like it, these two shirts are stitched together, each hanging on a regular coat hanger which have been moved close together so simulate an open shirtain.

Naturally, I will add more t-shirts to gain with and more to go down as well. This is just a first test.

Two attached shirts hanging on coat hangers assuming the "open" position. With one more shirt to go on one side, the width is about enough to cover a regular window.

Using a "curved" coat hanger

This is actually my favourite at the moment. A slighty curved and moulded coat hanger opens the fabric up a bit at the top and gives it a softer appearance.

In the beginning I thought this would be the best type of coat hanger but as you can see at the shoulder-region, it gives the fabric a very sharp edge I actually wouldn't want to see in a curtain ...

A very cheap plastic model. It's completely flat and straight. And unsuitable for a shirtain, I think.

This is a medium example, there are coat hangers that are even more "3D". WIth three of these to hang the shirtain on, a nice wave-form is created. My favourite so far.

I figured it'd be nice to be able to see a full shirt in the middle of the top row. The other rows may be constructed differently, especially since I will attempt a colour gradient going downwards ...

The witdh of this shirtain, using XL sized shirts, is approx, 1,5 meters, which should be enough for your average window. Since I live in a very old house, it will be quite high.

Every project needs a logo. Not really, but I made this for this project here. The "make a curtain out of t-shirts, as comissioned by spreadshirt.

Houdini Nation at Burning Man 2007

This picture was taken shortly after a dust/rainstorm with windspeed of up to 60 miles an hour (that's somewhere around 100km/h).

We spend approx. two hours hold on to our shade structure, drinking peer, getting sand blasted. What a fucking great time we had!

Found in Stuttgart, Germany. Apparently, this is just the peel of a 21st century potato.
