I’m a bit undecided about Ipernity. I opened my account here during the big exodus of Flickr users in Germany, in June 2007—I didn’t want to leave Flickr but I wanted to stay in touch with some great photographers that I had met there and who were so disappointed with it that they terminated their accounts and moved to Ipernity. I also wanted to share something here, so from time to time I chose a photo from my Flickr photostream (usually one that was above my average) and republished it here.

Time went on, many people returned to Flickr due to various reasons; others, like Roland the light guy and Ulrich the photo mover stopped their Ipernity activities in favor of an own web site or due to real life. A few months ago I found that my photos here were rarely viewed by more than ten people in a week, so I decided that it wasn’t really worth the effort.

Now, after the return of the two aforementioned photographers, I think I’ll return to my “a few photos per week” mode for a while and see what happens.

One of the less idyllic spots in Munich can be found just beneath the Donnersberger bridge: the pedestrian underpass, connecting the suburban railway station (to the east of the bridge) to the bus stops on the western side.

Some time ago we looked at a few hundred old slides (from the early 1980s), some of which had been taken at a nearby place where we had gone a few times back then but never again since. As the weather was very warm and sunny the next day, we decided to go there for a small nostalgia walk.

“Caution! Drive in the crotch! Pedestrians”

(“Schritt” can mean both “step”/“stride” and “crotch”. Obviously the person who made this sign years ago wanted people to drive at walking speed “Schritt fahren”, but instead they added a preposition which changed the meaning a bit.)

This was originally posted as a part of my Church of Reconciliation set on Flickr.

The ascending exit ramp, with light coming from a window above the exit door, symbolizes hope. The first five verses of Psalm 130 are written on the wall.

After a day of architecture photography (Asam church in Munich and Church of Reconciliation in Dachau) with some of the most amazing photography equipment that I’ve used so far, borrowed from LensAvenue of course..

We had some amazing light in Munich that day. Before you ask: It really looked like this—no serious manipulation involved, I applied just a tiny bit of highlight recovery (i.e. contrast reduction), white balance correction and chromatic aberration correction in Lightroom.

The building shown here is a municipal retirement home where I walk by every day.
