I was so frightened when i took this photo. On one hand I wanted to convey to others the great distance to the water, the power of the waves below. On the other hand I am unreasonably seized with vertigo, and there was no railing (well, there was - but from back where it was you could not even see the ocean edge).

The wind was so strong I had to lean into it hard to keep from being pushed over... but then occasionally it would stop and I would pitch forward. Terrifying.

Recette

Pour le gâteau :
500 g de farine
1 sachet de levure de boulanger
100 g de sucre
100 g de beurre fondu

Pour la crème pâtissière :
2 œufs
2 cuillères à soupe rases de farine
2 cuillères à soupe de sucre
1 citron
500 ml de lait

Préparer le gâteau : préchauffer le four pendant 5 minutes à 50° C et l'éteindre. Mélanger tous les ingrédients, couvrir avec un chiffon et laisser reposer pendant une heure dans le four éteint.

Préparer la crème pâtissière : battre les œufs entiers avec le sucre, ajouter la farine en mélangeant. Ajouter le lait froid, mélanger très bien. Mettre à chauffer à feu doux, ajouter le zeste du citron (seulement la partie jaune). Mélanger sans arrêt et vigoureusement, jusqu'à obtenir une consistance homogène et épaisse. Filmer la surface de la crème pâtissière avec du film alimentaire pour éviter qu'une peau ne se forme. Laisser refroidir.

Étendre la pâte pour former un rectangle de 50x30 cm et 1 cm d'épaisseur. Étaler la crème pâtissière sur la pâte, rouler le gâteau. Couper des tranches de 2 cm d'épaisseur, les placer dans un moule à ressort de 24 cm, chemisé de papier sulfurisé. Mettre le moule dans le four éteint et laisser lever encore une heure.

Faire cuire à 180° C pendant 15 minutes, puis baisser à 150° C pendant 15 minutes (en total, 30 minutes). Si le gâteau brunit de trop pendant la cuisson, le couvrir avec une feuille d'aluminium.
