Drove by the Blue Lagoon this afternoon. The autumn sun was low and created sharp shadows on the lava.

Went on the spur of the moment with a very good friend to see the famous and much photographed rock of Hvítserkur. It was an adventurous journey... and at the end of it the beast awaited patiently... :o)

On my way back home from Húsavík I drove by this field... and there I saw the coolest scarecrow I've ever seen :D

I couldn't get closer than this and I didn't have any lens for a close up so the photo in the note will have to do.

The scarecrow is a mannequin with a hat, sunglasses and a red apron :o) I couldn't quite make out what he's holding in his hands...

This large building/tower of glass is a monument of 2007/2008. They started building it with the intention of filling it with offices, companies and shops... and then came the depression and the financial crash of late 2008. All they could do was to finish putting in the glass (to get rid of the wind whistling through the building) ;o) and now it stands empty as a reminder of different times...

I took this one from my office window on May 25, 2008 when they had just started the build :o)

And here you can see a part of the progress :o)

Not your typical beach hut

This is taken at the beach at Hjöleifshöfði cape... there is shelter or some kind of emergency hut there beneath the cliffs (those cliffs are magnificent btw.)

There were all sorts of interesting things inside... an old sweater, toiletpaper, one boot, a thermos can and much, much more :o) Take a peek at the notes... and the original size ;o)

I love the ocean... and I respect it. Growing up in a fishing village and playing every day on the beach you quickly learn to respect its power... and beauty :o)

Listening to the sound of the waves crashing and the deep rumble of the ocean itself... smelling the salt... feeling the wind... it is the best medicine for my mind there is :o)

I urge you to look at it in the original size for medicinal purpose ;o)

The glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón ahead... on the other side, the Atlantic ocean.

Ok, this is a big one. This is a pano made from six shots standing on the bank of the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon.

It might take some time to load the original size but if you can I strongly recommend it! :o) There are some great details, like the flock of birds to the left of the bridge, the car that tows the zodiac boat that carried the BBC crew that were on the lagoon that day, the man walking up to the house etc.

This is one of the most famous tourist places in Iceland and some international films have partly been shot there, f.ex. James Bond's "Die Another Day", "Batman Begins" and Lara Croft's "Tomb Raider".

Seaspray on glacial ice

I love the light through the ice... and I tried to capture the seaspray as the waves crashed on the ice...

This lone ice cube is taller than me (ok, I know, it doesn't take much) ;o) ... and also a bit older, it's about 1000 years old :o)

It is originated from the Vatnajökull glacier in the background, it has broken off the glacier, floated around in the glacial lagoon, floated out to sea and washed up on the shore below the lagoon :o)

Went on a great 2 day trip along the southern coast with some friends... it was great and we covered a lot of ground... and took a lot of pictures, even though the weather did not quite co-operate... sometimes we were in danger of blowing away :D

I will be uploading more from the trip...

Still uploading "oldies" :o) This one is taken last summer.

Just outside of Hafnarfjörður where I live, there is an aluminium plant. It is situated in a very beautiful place where the lava meets the ocean. Strange mix...

Looks better in the original size.

On my photo "Traveling back in time" Cathie asked me where the dinosaurs were... so I told her I would try to find some shot from the hike with dinosaurs in them.

Well, I found one... and I can tell you, we were pretty startled when that big head appeared on the trail! But Brachiosaurus is a plant eater so we didn't run for cover... well most of us didn't :o)

Every town in Iceland has its own special mountain it likes to call its own... and thinks of course is the most magnificent mountain in the land ;o)

My hometown, Hafnarfjörður, has Keilir (which really means "cone" ... easily explained by its shape) :o)

This morning I hiked to the top of Keilir... too bad there is no road leading to it where it stands in a lava field... so one has to start (and end) with a 3 1/2 km. walk from and to the car.

The weather was beautiful and the walk was... invigorating :o)

Yet another one from that night on Bláfjallaleið. Many flaws in this one photographically... (is that a word?)... but such a magical atmosphere that I couldn't resist uploading it ;o)

Went out tonight and down to the sea... and I had loaned a camera from work on a very short notice. Well, everything that could go wrong, went wrong... (almost) ;o)

I didn't know how to work the buttons properly so I took one test shot without focusing properly just to try out the exposure time (holding the button down with my finger because I had no remote button, trying not to laugh... or breathe!), forgot to check the focal lenght in the dark... and then the battery went dead! I had been in such a hurry that I had forgotten to charge it :o)

I tried to salvage this one test shot... and this is it, for better or for worse, blurry horizon, overexposed lights and all! I decided to post it anyway out of pure frustration of having no new photos :o)

And then it started to rain... but it was a great trip! Loved it! :D
