It was the perfect night, the perfect weather, the perfect company... and an imperfect and broken lens that was always out of focus on the left side.

For that reason I never posted these photos, they are imperfect photographically... but there is something I really like about them... maybe the nothingness... or the memories :o)

Anyway, since we've had no proper snow this winter, I decided to post my imperfections from February last... because of what I find to be the perfect mood :o)

Drove by the Blue Lagoon this afternoon. The autumn sun was low and created sharp shadows on the lava.

The Blue Lagoon is a lagoon of geothermal seawater, rich in minerals, silica and algae - see The Blue Lagoon's website.

Night at the aluminium plant

Just outside of Hafnarfjörður where I live, there is an aluminium plant. It is situated in a very beautiful place where the lava meets the ocean. Strange mix...

Looks better in the original size.

Every town in Iceland has its own special mountain it likes to call its own... and thinks of course is the most magnificent mountain in the land ;o)

My hometown, Hafnarfjörður, has Keilir (which really means "cone" ... easily explained by its shape) :o)

This morning I hiked to the top of Keilir... too bad there is no road leading to it where it stands in a lava field... so one has to start (and end) with a 3 1/2 km. walk from and to the car.

The weather was beautiful and the walk was... invigorating :o)

Went hiking on Sunday morning in a place called Búrfellsgjá. It's a walk along a wide lava channel that was made by a lava flow from the cinder cone Búrfell. This place is a geologists dream ;o

This is the end of the lava channel, looking towards the cinder cone :o)

UPDATE: Thanks to Hafdís for providing me with the right names of things, i.e. Búfell is a cinder cone and Búrfellsgjá is a lava channel. The lava is 8000 years old!

This is a small lagoon just above the beach at Djúpalónssandur. By this little lagoon there are ruins of shelters where the seaman lived during the fishing periods, away from their families, often enduring harsh weathers.

This place was most active from the 15th century till the 19th century and it is thought that at some time, up to 600-700 people rowed from that place.

At Búðir, there is this beautiful beach with golden sand... very unusual in Iceland, almost all our beaches have black volcanic sand. In fact, this beach reminds me a lot of the danish beaches... except for the black lava rocks of course ;o)

Mt. Hekla is Iceland's most active volcano... it last erupted in 2000 and is believed to be "due" any time now in 2008 :o)

During the middle ages, Icelanders called it "Gateway to Hell" due to it's frequent and varied outburst, some lasting only days, others lasting for years.

We had beautiful weather today, newly fallen snow and sunshine so I packed the camera and walked into the back land behind Hafnarfjörður where I live.

I could have been alone in the world, in this wide expanse of snow and lava, it was wonderful to totally disconnect from the daily life and enjoy the total quiet of the place and the warmth of the sun.
