A map highlighting the different cities that could be linked to Las Vegas by rail. A proposed maglev would go from Vegas to Anaheim. DesertXpress, a proposed privately-funded, standard steel-wheel on rail system would go from Vegas only to Victorville. It would, in effect, simply make Victorville a railroad suburb of Vegas.

Red is the route for the January 12 hike, yellow is the February 12 hike. The arrows indicate where we found slickensides and other abundant evidence of a fault. The dotted yellow line is a canyon we should explore soon.

The Desert Sun reports that point "A" is "near Blythe," which is point "B." The actual distance is about 58 miles according to Google.

Walking To DHS

Google maps now give walking directions as well as their usual driving directions. I asked for a walking route from Palm Springs to Desert Hot Springs and it took this interesting turn. Not all of this walking route is paved, but it does get the pedestrian off of busy Palm Drive which doesn't have sidewalks until you get to the DHS city limits.
