Nikon D50 with 55-200mm f/4-5.6 + Hoya R72 (near-infrared filter) on a flimsy tripod. Like shooting from the hip...

Adobe Camera Raw is sadly not that good for working with IR images, one can only set white balance via drop-down menu or use a slider. I really miss the precise WB picker tool that was in Rawshooter (the Danish company that made it was merged with Adobe), my previous IR workflow was to include some foliage and use that as a white/neutral gray point for setting an automatic WB.

Therefore I can only give you a poor false colour version here as opposed to this shot.

The ruins of the Roman town Thuburbo Mais (or Majus) in modern day Tunisia.

The local Capitolium in the middle, its columns were re-erected by French archaelogists in the 19th(?) century.

Shot under dull direct harsh sunlight, therefore more postprocessing than I usually do (saturation bumped up a lot etc.), perhaps even overdone?

Shot in July from one of the two summits of Pyhätunturi (lit. 'Holy Fell'). Since Finland is rather flat and what mountains we have have eroded into fells, a sight such as this is not that common. Quite different from Norway and Sweden for example.

Our campsite was to the left in frame; a polarizer would have been snazzy.

PM Matti Vanhanen drinking Pommac at the banquet hall of the Finnish Government (called Smolna). Shot during a reception while I attended a history conference marking the 200 year anniversary of the war of 1808-09 last February. I think this room is called the "Yellow Salon".

Another shot from our honeymoon last year, this time in colour. Tourists on an (almost) dry salt lake.

This series (from the desert/inland of Tunisia) is one of the few series I shot in RAW which certainly pays off later on. JPEG may save card space but is a lot more limited when one wants to correct exposure or white balance.

Mrs. Scoo and I visited the Estonian capital Tallinn (formerly known as Reval) during the weekend, one of the points of interestest for her [err, us ;) ] was a wholesale store that sell bulk wool yarn, cloth and various sewing and knitting supplies.

Thanks to her knitting e-sisters and such she had got directions to the store which was situated in a semi-derelict building in a residental area of Tallinn.

Our savings were considerate, over there Novita Stone yarn cost 1.85€ per ball while it cost here in Finland 3.30€ and upwards.

On the left are a couple of floating restaurants (permanently moored ships that serve as beer & restaurant boats) , the red light in the middle is coming from a smokestack belonging to the local energy company.

Municipal or city council election campaign poster on the Aura bridge for one of the minor protest parties (in this case FPB). It got featured because it was at the end of a long row of campaign posters of different parties erected on the bridge, obstructing the view of the river...

Shot wide open at f/2. Getting a correct whitebalance is difficult due to several different types of artificial lighting (some halogen-like [HID?], fluorescent, mercury & sodium vapour lamps etc.).

Five fells

Five fells in one frame (Kellostapuli is actually part of Ylläs, so one could say that only four fells are shown in this image, check the note).

This and others were shot in order to measure the light for a roll of Velvia 50 (a roll that I thoroughly botched). Shot from the fell Pyhätunturi in the Pallas-Yllästunturi national park.

A point of interest is the spruce to the lower right in frame that's distorted due to exposure to wind and snow etc.
