My first medium format shots for the year and the first attempt at shooting (expired 06/2007) Ektachrome properly (a previous roll was crossprocessed) together with a 81C warming filter.

Last Saturday I had the honour of photographing the "second wedding" (a blessing ceremony + anniversary) of a couple who are family friends. She's from Finland and he's hailing from New Zealand. As they got married a year ago in Australia this was a ceremony for their Finnish relatives and European friends.

The unique chapel is named after a historical bishop of Finland and a difficult place to shoot in (due to lighting & the narrow but long chapel body).

Much to my surprise some pigs grew wings (alternatively some cows came home) and attracted some snow to Turku, thus the entire city has been clad in a most beautiful winter attire.

Plenty of people were also amazed by the-one-day-of-the-year-that-featured-snow and promptly photographed the snow.

Municipal or city council election campaign poster on the Aura bridge for one of the minor protest parties (in this case FPB). It got featured because it was at the end of a long row of campaign posters of different parties erected on the bridge, obstructing the view of the river...

Shot wide open at f/2. Getting a correct whitebalance is difficult due to several different types of artificial lighting (some halogen-like [HID?], fluorescent, mercury & sodium vapour lamps etc.).

A hint of Ostrobothnian delight

A ditch next to a field and a main road. See it large.

Having been at a loss at what to upload to illustrate my vacation in July I chose one which represents Ostrobothnia, the region of Finland I'm native of. This is shot when the sun was setting over a cultivated area close to where my sister-in-law lives; being on our way home I could not resist the glorious light. Here experimenting with a 5:2 aspect ratio, quite nice for landscapes I think.

The backlog from July is rather substantial, a photoshoot for a childhood friend who is into body building is prioritized.

Shot near the Halinen district of Turku. The building is used for drying fodder.

The first and last roll of APX 400 in 120 format I'll probably ever will handle (re-branded it exists as Rollei retro and such). Would have expired 07/2008, got it for free from Kuva-Paijula in Turku when I bought a bulk loader and a 30,5m roll of TMAX-100 and asked about it. Shot rated at EI 200 (as it was an ISO 200 film), medium yellow filter used; shot at f/8, 1/30. Rodinal 1+50 20°C 8 min.

Instead of going to a restaurant we celebrated our wedding anniversary by going camping to the island Ruissalo in the Turku archipelago. Kuuva is a pleasant place to be at when the sun is setting.

An infrared filter is a fairly cheap way for letting one's imagination loose, the effect of (near) infrared photography can be mimicked in photoshop, takes a fair bit of work though.

Cheap but not that good processing done in Hammamet, Tunisia. Fortunately the store owner ran out of developer after one roll, so I ended up with only one scratched roll.

16A versus 16B

Läntinen Pitkäkatu 16, stairwell A to the left, stairwell B to the right (the façade is not fully symmetrical).

Taken specifically for my ipernity audience during a stroll yesterday evening :) Saturation bumped up a little and a very mild local contrast enhancement applied in post-processing. Finally, yet another experiment with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

First time I've added a border around an image that I've uploaded.

The main street in my hometown of Jakobstad/Pietarsaari, Finland on 25.12.2006. Fortunately a thin coating of snow fell on the ground the same evening which made it a lot more appealing.

The heart is part of the christmas symbols of my hometown, consisting of a cross (faith), an anchor (hope) and a heart (love) that hang over the Main Street and in smaller versions in people's homes.

If I remember correctly, f/8 and a bit over 15 seconds exposure (camera was frozen and thus the shutter a bit stiff). A much better scanner does more justice to this version, had one up at flickr too which was scanned on an old Epson 1640 (no film holder), the Epson V500 I have now is quicker & better.
