This Thai Buddha image shows the pang man wichai position, the submission of the "Māra".
In Buddhism, Māra is the demon who tempted Gautama Buddha by trying to seduce him with the vision of beautiful women who, in various legends, are often said to be his daughters. In Buddhist cosmology, Māra personifies unskillfulness, the "death" of the spiritual life. He is a tempter, distracting humans from practicing the spiritual life by making the mundane alluring or the negative seem positive.

Some people say that 4,000 Statues lying around, some people say there are more than 7,000. People bring images to sacrifice and place the Buddha for perhaps many hundred years. Nobody takes a Buddha and I hope no tourist will do it in the future - its a tabu!!!

On the left hand side there is a shrine dedicated to the Buddha whose image appears on top of a building containing the image of Nang Thorani, wringing the water from her hair. To the right are elephants in a procession of warriors who have fired arrows in the direction of the Buddha image.

This Buddhist stupa is also known as That Chomsi. It measures about 30 metres and was built in 1576. The Lanna inspired structure stands tall over the town and can be entered by a cavity left by the Chinese Ho marauders, over a century ago after they looted the stupa in order to seize valuable Buddha images enshrined within.

The image, in the attitude of subduing Mara, is believed to be the Phra Atchana, mentioned in Ramkhamhaeng' famous inscription. A staircase leading to space behind the image's head, revealing line carvings of the Jataka tales (stories of Buddha's previous life episode), has now been blocked.

The caves are inhabited by thousands of Buddha statues, some allegedly more than 300 years old. Monks used to live in the caves, too. When Laos was still a monarchy, the caves were visited every year by the king.

Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham often simply Wat Mai or Wat May is a Buddhist template or wat in Luang Prabang, Laos. It is the largest and most richly decorated of the temples in Luang Prabang.
Built in the 18th century it is located near the Royal Palace Museum.
An emerald Buddha statue sits inside the red-gold interior.

Although small and seemingly unimpressive, the side-chambers in this building may have influenced the subsequent design of Angkor Wat. The buddhas in the central chamber are modern.
The front section, of sandstone, is now occupied by four Buddha images, while the brick rear part, which formerly contained the central linga, is empty. The entire roof is missing, although a makeshift covering has been added to the front. Water from the spring which emerges from the cliff about 60 m southwest of the sanctuary was channeled along stone aqueducts into the rear chamber, continuously bathing the linga.
