hab gerade eine etwas seltsame Erfahrung gemacht mit der Firma Ifolor: die werben auf gmx mit reduzierten Angeboten, schicken bei Bestellung eine Auftragsbestätigung für den reduzierten Preis und wollen dann ohne Vorwarnung den vollen Preis haben - falls man schon vorher dort mal bestellt hat, d.h. kein Neukunde ist. Gaga - nie wieder.

I hate religions where I have to switch off my brain, believe in virgins, angels, messages from above and similar magic. I was always fascinated by the earthy buddhist approach but turned off by these candle burning, mumbling and chanting thing...

Recently I found a really refreshing approach to buddhism: Bad Buddhist radio, www.badbuddhistradio.com/index.html - this guy is really fun, he forces you to *use* your brain and wipes off the dust of an old religion.

ich wollte eigentlich auch dieses Jahr wieder einen schlichten Foto-Kalender machen, schwarzer Hintergrund, DIN A3 quer - relativ einfach. Leider ist das Format von Foto-Qelle in diesem Jahr so vergurkt, dass die Firma nicht mehr in Frage kommt (u.a. nicht änderbare grüne Schrift), myphotobook hat das was ich will, ist aber mit 25 Euro (plus Versand) relaiv teuer. Gibts Alternativen?

there was an interesting article on the German Website heise.de about an open source

firmware for Canon cameras - it does *not* overwrite the original firmware so it should be

quite safe. Among other features it enables you to write RAW files even with the

*small* consumer things.

actually we have a very strange discussion in Germany about something called "Pendlerpauschale". This was a tax reduction you could get for the costs of the trip from home to the workplace (0.3Euro/km). It was basically a subsidy for the German car and petro-chemical industry. It helped the urban sprawl and did clearly not reduce our output of carbon dioxide. A few years it was abolished for financial and environmental reasons. Now, with the growing fuel prices, the so called conservative party wants to reintroduce it. And here comes my question: it there a similar subsidy/tax reduction in other countries or is this again one of the many special features of the German tax system?

Sometimes they push too hard on CCTV, the one and only chinese television: actually they are showing many spots about the earthquake. This morning I watched how they throw packages with 12 bottles of water out of an helicopter from a height of app 30m down to the ground. Ouch!

Malen konnte ich nie richtig, meine Bilder hatten immer einen Touch ins Kackbraune - die Grundfarben waren mir nie genug, ich hab immer noch einen draufgesetzt und mir dadurch letzten Endes die Bilder versaut. Hat das was mit dem Krimi zu tun? Ja, der ist genauso.

Eigentlich war es eine gute Idee, die Allgäuer Art in ihrer ganzen behäbigen Breite mal als Krimi aufzubereiten. Für andere Langweilerorte wie Münster und die Eifel funktioniert das ja auch ganz gut. Die ersten beiden Bände fand ich gut, irgendwie kantig und heimatnah (ja, ich bin in Kempten zur Schule gegangen). Der letzte Band war schon so lala, und der neue Kluftinger mit dem Titel "Laienspiel" ist eigentlich nur noch Lesefutter, das man sofort wieder bei Ebay vertickt solange es noch auf der Spiegel-Liste steht. Die Charaktere entwickeln sich überhaupt nicht weiter, sondern wirken inzwischen völlig ausgelutscht und gleiten ins holzschnittartig Überzeichnete ab, dafür wird bei sinnloser Action noch einer draufgesetzt: es reicht nicht, dass islamische Terroristen die Europameisterschaft bedrohen, es muss auch noch ein kleiner Kurort dran glauben. Ausserdem haben die Autoren so viele Hinweise für Doofe in den Text gestreut, dass die Auflösung dann schon wieder langweilig ist. Und die Vermittlung von religiösen Inhalten haben die Rabbi-Krimis von Kemelmann besser und über mehr Bände hingekriegt.

Zusammenfassung: lest die ersten beiden Bände, vergesst den Rest.

Samsung Service Disaster

I am angry. In 2005 I bought a quite expensive Samsung notebook, last week the mainboard was defective (all kinds of controller errors). Today I called Samsung service, short summary: they are not able to tell me the costs for the exchange of the mainboard. I have to send it in and pay another 40 Euros for a cost estimation. Never again. Because nearly all notebooks on the market fit my needs, I ordered today a cheap Lenovo. I think with the recent price drops, the best policy is to stay on the cheap side and buy a new one as soon as the old one has problems.
