DHL sucks!

The day before yesterday late in the evening I ordered a new lens and a new memory card. It was a rather short decision. And because I wanted to use the lens already on friday for an appointment I chose a dealer I know and I rely on. Available means available even if it was a little more expensive than the cheapest dealer I know. And I paid 6 Euro extra for an express delivery by DHL with assured delivery today, wednesday. Yesterday I got the advice of dispatch so today I stayed at home. The whole day I didn't leave the house. I'm on holiday, so this was no problem for me. I woke up early before 8 AM and I've been at home the whole day long. I'm not hard of hearing, but as a precaution I even avoided noise like the vacuum cleaner or loud music because I didn't want to miss the door bell. In the afternoon I was in the kitchen when the door bell rang. Since I live in an apartment building (first floor above ground level in a two-storey building, 16 steps) I pushed the door opener just around the corner after the doorbell rang, which took only two or three seconds. And then I waited at my opened door (I don't know what it's like elsewhere but here this is usual). But nobody showed up. So after a short while (less than a minute) I went downstairs myself, also to look for the regular post in the letterbox. What I found was an advice note from DHL that the delivery of the package was not possible and I could retrieve it at the next local office the next day.

WTF?!

Either the deliverer didn't rang at all and the door bell was a ding-dong ditch. Or the advice note was pre-written because I was so quick downstairs at the letter boxes that I must have found the deliverer guy/gal writing the advice or even see his/her car along the road.

That's not even a bad service. This is NO service! I wrote a letter of complaint online and I'm curious about their answer.

My brother had a similar experience some years ago and the delivery guy showed up personally at his door only to offer an excuse. That's the least I expect! But I fear it's unavailingly.

Vorgestern spät am Abend habe ich ein neues Objektiv und eine neue Speicherkarte bestellt. Eine eher kurzfristige Entscheidung. Und da ich das Objektiv für eine Verabredung am Freitag schon benutzen wollte habe ich einen mir bekannten Händler gewählt, dem ich vertraue. Lieferbar heißt lieferbar, auch wenn es etwas teurer war als beim billigsten mir bekannten Händler.

Außerdem habe ich 6 Euro zusätzlich für eine Schnelllieferung bezahlt, mit zugesicherter Zustellung heute, Mittwoch. Gestern habe ich die Versandmitteilung bekommen, also bin ich heute zu Hause geblieben. Den ganzen Tag bin ich nicht raus gegangen. Ich habe Urlaub, also war das kein Problem für mich. Ich bin vor acht Uhr morgens aufgewacht und war den ganzen Tag zu Hause. Ich bin nicht schwerhörig, aber ich habe sicherheitshalber sogar Lärm wie den Staubsauger oder laute Musik vermieden, nur um die Klingel nicht zu verpassen. Am Nachmittag stand ich in der Küche als es klingelte. Da ich in einem Mehrfamilienhaus wohne (erster Stock bei zwei Etagen, 16 Stufen) drückte ich den Türöffner gleich um die Ecke, was nur etwa zwei-drei Sekunden dauerte. Und dann wartete ich an der geöffneten Wohnungstür (ich weiß nicht wie es woanders ist aber hier ist das so üblich). Aber niemand kam. Nach einer kurzen Weile (weniger als eine Minute) ging ich also selber nach unten auch um nach der normalen Post im Briefkasten zu gucken. Was ich fand war eine Benachrichtigungskarte von DHL, dass eine Zustellung eines Paketes nicht möglich gewesen wäre und dass ich es am nächsten Tag an der nächsten Abholstation abholen könne.

Was zum Henker…?!

Entweder hat der Zusteller gar nicht geklingelt und es war nur ein Klingelstreich. Oder die Benachrichtigungskarte war schon vorgeschrieben, denn ich war so schnell unten an den Briefkästen, dass ich den Zusteller noch beim Schreiben der Karte getroffen hätte oder wenigstens seinen Wagen auf der Straße gesehen hätte.

Das ist nicht mal schlechter Service. Das ist gar keiner! Ich habe online eine Beschwerde geschrieben und bin gespannt auf ihre Antwort. Mein Bruder hatte vor einige Jahren auch so ein Erlebnis und der Zusteller tauchte tatsächlich persönlich an seiner Haustür auf um um Entschuldigung zu bitten. Das ist das wenigste was ich erwarte. Aber ich fürchte vergeblich.

ENG: I don't smoke so this shouldn't bother me. But this is a "beautiful" example for the sneaky loss of freedom. As a measure of child-welfare you have to prove your age at cigarette vending machines for getting cigarettes. And this machine is able to read your ID card, passport or EC driving licence. Who guarantees that these data aren't collected, transferred or used in any manner? And if it is not yet, then at least the technical possibility for it is established now. And in the pleaded name of protection another small part of freedom is lost.

If they really want to protect people then ban these cigarette vending machines completely like they banned vending machines for beer some decades ago.

Don't use a data reading machine - Go to a shop!

Or better: Quit smoking :-)

DEU: Ich rauche nicht, also sollte mich das nicht stören. Aber dies ist ein "schönes" Beispiel für den schleichenden Verlust der Freiheit. Zum Schutz der Jugend muss man sein Alter an Zigarettenautomaten nachweisen. Und dieser Automat ist in der Lage Deinen Ausweis, Reisepass oder EU-Führerschein zu lesen. Wer garantiert, dass diese Daten nicht gesammelt, übermittelt oder sonst wie genutzt werden? Und wenn das noch nicht passiert, so ist doch wenigstens schon die technische Voraussetzung dafür geschaffen worden. Und im vorgeschobenen Namen des Schutzes ist ein weiterer kleiner Teil der Freiheit verloren gegangen.

Wenn sie wirklich Menschen schützen wollen, dann sollten sie diese Zigarettenautomaten komplett verbieten, genauso wie sie vor Jahrzehnten Bierautomaten verboten haben.

Benutzt keine datenlesenden Automaten - Geht in einen Laden!

Oder besser: Hört auf zu rauchen :-)

sorry for not posting pictures the last weeks. Due to my job I'm too tired of working on the computer at home for being productive. Currently I'm really excited. I'm waiting for the delivery of some new toys. I ordered a Nikon D700 and a new lens Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8. The goods are on their way and I'm awaiting their delivery every day.

tut mir leid, dass ich die letzten Wochen keine neuen Bilder gepostet habe. Wegen meines Berufs bin ich ziemlich bildschirmmüde um zu Hause noch produktiv zu sein. Gegenwärtig bin ich ziemlich unruhig. Ich erwarte die Lieferung einiger neuer Spielsachen. Ich habe eine Nikon D700 und ein Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 bestellt. Die Teile sind unterwegs und ich erwarte sie täglich.

nachdem ich in den letzten Tagen selbst einige Bilder von Ketten hochgeladen habe, habe ich nach einer passenden Gruppe dafür gesucht. Da war aber keine Gruppe für Ketten, obwohl es viele Bilder davon gibt. Also habe ich eine neue Gruppe Ketten. gegrüdet. Keine Beschränkungen, außer dass es Bilder von Ketten sein sollten.Viel Spaß!

I'm off for the next 12 days. I'm in Berlin, visiting the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. I doubt that I'll be able to post some pictures the next days. I even didn't process all the shots I took one year ago (about 2.000). Shame on me!

But I hope to find some time late at least at night to check your new pictures and comments.

Für die nächsten 12 Tage bin ich weg. Ich bin in Berlin bei den 58. Internationalen Filmfestspielen. Ich bezweifel, dass ich dazu kommen werde Bilder in den nächsten Tagen zu posten. Ich bin noch nichtmal fertig mit der Nachbearbeitung der Bilder vom letzten Jahr (um die 2000 Stück). Schande über mich!

Aber ich hoffe, dass ich des Nachts wenigstens ein bisschen Zeit finde um Eure neuen Bilder und Kommentare anzugucken.

Rathaus spontan - Town hall spontaneously

DEUTSCH (GERMAN)

Letzten Dienstag war ich mit Ralph am späten Nachmittag im Kieler Rathaus um dort in der Eingangshalle eine „Ausstellung ausgezeichneter Architektur“ vom Bund Deutscher Architekten anzusehen. Dort waren ca. 30 Plakate mehr oder weniger gelungener baukünstlerischer Leistungen zu sehen, die wir allerdings in wenigen Minuten überflogen hatten und dann vom Gebäude selbst gefesselt wurden.

Wir sind dann einfach vollkommen ungeplant und spontan durchs Haus gezogen. Es ist ja schließlich ein öffentliches Gebäude. Das gehört ja quasi uns :-)

Wir konnten uns total "unheimlich" auf allen öffentlich zugänglichen Fluren vollkommen frei bewegen, wurden gelegentlich von Spätarbeitern gegrüßt und sonst vollkommen toleriert. Wir sind ganz offen mit Kameras herumgelaufen und konnten auch auf die Zuschauertribüne des großen Ratssaals (Bilder folgen), die wegen irgendwelcher Arbeiten offen war.

Bis auf einen Gorilla-Pod hatten wir keine Stative mit. Ich hätte mich aber dann auch nicht getraut eines aufzubauen. In dem Fall würde ich doch lieber vorher fragen.

Die Tour durchs Rathaus hat dann auch locker anderthalb Stunden gedauert. Das war mit Abstand der lohnendste und reizvollste Photowalk seit langem! Gegen Ende sagte meine 4 GB Karte "Full"!

Nur einen Nachteil habe ich gefunden: Mein dringender Bedarf an einer rauschärmeren Kamera im hohen ISO-Bereich ist noch mal gewaltig gewachsen! Diverse Bilder sind doch verwackelt oder übelst verrauscht. Mal gucken was da noch zu retten ist.

Last Tuesday I’ve been with Ralph on late afternoon at the Kiel town hall to see an “Exhibition of awarded architecture” of the German Architects Federation at the entrance hall. There ware about 30 poster of more or less successful architectural achievements which we galloped through in a few minutes but then we were riveted by the building itself.

We walked completely unexpected and spontaneously through the building. Eventually it’s a public building. We own it quasi :-)

We were able to move around completely unstealthy on every publicly available corridor, we have been greeted occasionally by some late workers and were completely tolerated. We walked there openly with our cameras and were able to visit the visitor tribune of the great council hall (pictures will follow) which has been open due to some technical work.

Except one Gorilla-Pod we didn’t have tripods with us. On the other hand I wouldn’t have had the heart to use it. In this case I would have ask previously.

The tour through the town hall easily took about one and a half hour. This was by far the most worthwile and attractive photowalk for a long time. At the end my 4 GB storage card told me “Full”!

I only found one drawback: My desperate need of a more noiseless camera at high ISO range grew massively! Miscellaneous pictures are wiggly or very noisy. Let’s see what to make the best of a bad job.

New Group "Bottle Trash"

Hi folks,

writing isn't my cup of tea, I'm better in pictures, but I want to let you know that I founded a new group called "Bottle Trash". Pictures of thrown away bottles of any kind wherever you find them on your way but where they don't belong.

I was thinking about a group like this for quite a while because I collected a lot of pictures for it. But I never had the time or leisure to carry them together. But now I made! So here it is: A group "dedicated" to thrown away bottles. When I took my first pictures on this subject I was really amazed how many bottles are lying around. When you start to get an eye for it you see them almost everywhere. Now I'm collecting bottle trash.

After founding the group I searched everyone's pictures at ipernity for 'bottle' and found a lot of really nice pictures perfectly suitable for the group.

So let me invite you all and ask you for walking around with open eyes looking for bottle trash. This is more easy than you think!

Holiday - I'm off for some days

still no new pictures from me. I told you why.

Today is the first day of my three week holiday and I thought I would be able to stoll though my archive to find and edit some nice pictures. But now I have the opportunity to have some holidays together with my girl and we will spontaneously make a journey to Föhr, a German North Sea island. I'm not sure how long we will stay. So I won't be around for a few days.

Finally I feel comfortable enough so that I became a pro user today. Some things are really great, some things need getting used to. But overall this is a place I can make myself at home. And not unimportant is that many of my old contacs and friends moved here to.

After some visits I'm not sure what I should think about this place. So many features. Perhaps too many? Photos, Audio, Video, other. Blog. Chat. Man, this is huge. Some things I miss at flickr. Many things I don't need. Perhaps too much for me. I'm just looking for a cool photo sharing site, where I can meet nice people with the same intention.

The photo thing seems to work very well apart from the missing groups feature. Not necessary but quite useful. But I've read they're working on it.

I'm really happy to meet here a lot of my old friends from flickr. That means a lot. I found an articel (in German) dealing with this situation. http://www.heise.de/tp/r4/artikel/25/25536/1.html
