The memorial stands at the point where the boundaries of three parishes - Elveden, Eriswell, and Icklingham - meet and honours those from the parishes who served and died during World War One. The memorial was commissioned by philanthropist and businessman Edward Cecil Guinness (created Earl of Iveagh and Viscount of Elveden in 1919), owner of the Elveden Estate and Elveden Hall. Funded by Guinness in conjunction with donations from parishioners the column stands about 39 metres (128 feet) high and commemorates the 48 fallen from the three parishes.

Shearings Holidays 184 (H184 DVM), a Van Hool Alizeé bodied Volvo B10M new in February 1991, was heading westbound on the A11 at the end of a tour based in Cromer.

After one withdrawal in 1970, seven were withdrawn during 1972 although the final two lasted until April 1973.

Ribble used the vehicles on medium distance express and limited stop services in North West England and they wore their coach livery of mainly cream with crimson relief, a reversed format of the bus livery which was mainly crimson with cream relief. As a result they vehicles became known as the ‘White Lady’ class.

These secondhand acquisitions looked right at home in the Premier Travel livery giving a unique flavour to the fleet. Actually, the styling was not unlike three Wilks and Meade bodied Daimler double deck vehicles which Premier Travel had had built in May/June 1950 for use on its own services.

Premier Travel 140 (DCK 208) was one of the pair that lasted until April 1973 and had been new as Ribble 1237. It was seen at the War Memorial in Newton heading to Cambridge on service 1.

In February 2020 the Excel (XL) service was upgraded with the introduction of a batch of new well appointed Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 City bodied Scania N250UDs which had been delivered at the end of 2019 in readiness for the launch. A new red based livery replaced the blue and gold livery carried by the buses previously employed on the service. Note that the buses do not feature traditional style rear view mirrors, cameras now provide this facility.

I had read of the planned upgrade at the New Year and was looking forward to a trip on the service soon after the launch. However, a bad back and then the Coronavirus Covid-19 lockdown put paid to that plan. So, some seven months on I ventured out especially to get a few photographs.
