These woody plants shed all their leaves annually—typically in autumn—to conserve energy and water, surviving winter or dry seasons by entering dormancy. They often display vibrant foliage colours before losing leaves to reveal structural branches. Common examples include oak, maple, beech, birch, and ash. Behind this characteristic dead trunk lies a small lake that the deer herd no doubt takes to at times.
Here is a shot from December 2010 taken at the edge of my home town of Oldham. I worked not far from here and as it was my lunch break I quickly drove to a known beauty area only about a five minute drive away. I knew it was very cold with lying snow but nothing had quite prepared me for this scene
A real winter postcard that is my pleasure to revive here from my old Panormio account.
Taken just some weeks ago but being almost identical to the one with the same P.O.V taken almost ten years ago.
On many occasions I see flowers left at the tree and bench proving that the same tree area was somebody else’s favourite spot too. See PiP’s
The second PiP shows the same tree from across the reservoir.
