As springtime shows its face many of these sheep now have lambs as can be seen under the tree. Taken around the grounds of Erdigg Hall.

A trip near Wrexham in Wales brings us to the magnificent Erddig Hall and its gardens.
Here is the formal avenue of pleached lime trees creating lines of rich golden hues for us.

“Pleached lime trees (Tilia europaea or cordata) are excellent winter structure plants, featuring a clear, formal framework of branches and striking red-toned twigs. As deciduous trees, they lose leaves in winter but maintain screening through dense, interlaced branches.” Google

As we walks a round this rather large parkland, our path takes us through old woodlands of typical British Deciduous trees. These woody plants shed all their leaves annually—typically in autumn—to conserve energy and water, surviving winter or dry seasons by entering dormancy. They often display vibrant foliage colours before losing leaves to reveal structural branches. Common examples include oak, maple, beech, birch, and ash. Behind this characteristic dead trunk lies a small lake that the deer herd no doubt takes to at times.

Another vintage shot, this time from 2013. Taken on a windy day on the Cumbrian coast near Humphrey Head. It must be windy here almost permanently judging from the angle of this tree.

A walk alongside the River Brathay near Elterwater is very popular especially for me with this grand lighting. We have passed the impressive Skelwith Falls (pip) and see on our right this fine stand of trees. In the background stands the southern ridge of Loughrigg Fell of which we walked its northern side when we visited Rydal Caves (pip) the day before. Ah yes, a bench that has no takers on this cold wet day.

As we were walking the path above the Lake District lake of Rydal Water I spotted this old dead tree. The sun was lighting it up against the backdrop of the lake below. I loved the way the pointing branches seem to be alive although plainly dead with these harmonic soft colours.
Almost very secondary is the dry stone wall and leafless trees along its base.

A most enjoyable stroll around the bottom of our Chew Valley near Dovestones reservoir cannot help but be endearing. An obvious 3-shot HDR render here gives us a slightly painted effect but that is how it felt in real life as well. Well worth getting my boots wet and muddy for, I think.

When I saw this tree against the sun and with a backdrop of woodland charm I felt as if I could hug it! I have always loved trees – the sight, feel and smell of them fills me with the joys of our earth.
This is another from the bottom of our Chew Valley and I cannot make any excuse for having had captured scenes from here before and sharing them with you –but you know –I cannot help it!!!

A local walk to our Tandle Hills woodland park gives us a glimpse of this years oak tree bounty. Most of the other oaks had shed their acorns completely but this tree still had a bumper supply for the squirrels here.

Winters in Britain aren’t what they used to be. Here is a shot from December 2010 taken at the edge of my home town of Oldham. I worked not far from here and as it was my lunch break I quickly drove to a known beauty area only about a five minute drive away. I knew it was very cold with lying snow but nothing had quite prepared me for this scene
A real winter postcard that is my pleasure to revive here from my old Panormio account.

Another look at my all-time favourite tree which for some time has had an accompanying bench. Taken just some weeks ago but being almost identical to the one with the same P.O.V taken almost ten years ago.
On many occasions I see flowers left at the tree and bench proving that the same tree area was somebody else’s favourite spot too. See PiP’s

The second PiP shows the same tree from across the reservoir.

As the snow lies heavily on the ground and trees, a line of poles takes my eye along the s-bend fence to the most interesting trees. I spot movement down there –perhaps just a bird?

A look down to the small bridge over the brook, on another local walk. The trees are covered with overnight snow and the last of the autumnal leaves cling onto the branches bringing us a bit of warm colour.

A Big tree

As we walk beyond the Yorkshire Dales village of Middleham we pass this magnificent tree. It really was very big but despite it distinctive long leaves I cannot truly identify it. I also took a photo just of the centre part with the old barn thinking that was the major catch but no, I find I like this better. See PiP.

As Christmas weekend fast approaches here near my home, it is a rare thing to see snow as in the old days of guaranteed falls at this time of year. This was taken almost a month back down in my local valley when I also had the pleasure of some nice lighting too.
