As night falls, the heat subsides by the sea. The sky takes on dark hues that bring out the silhouettes. In the bottom left-hand corner of the collage, you can see the twinkling lights of Granville.

SILHOUETTES SUR LA PLAGE. À la tombée de la nuit, la chaleur s'atténue au bord de la mer. Le ciel se pare de teintes sombres qui font ressortir les silhouettes. En bas à gauche dans le collage on voit scintiller les lumières de Granville.

SILHOUETTEN AM STRAND. Bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit lässt die Hitze am Meer nach. Der Himmel färbt sich in dunkle Töne, die die Silhouetten hervorheben. Unten links in der Collage sieht man die Lichter von Granville funkeln.

The former Bagnoles-de-l'Orne railway station was in service from 1881 to 1991 on the line linking Briouze to Couterne in Normandy (see PiP with the old postcard). As part of the regeneration of the station district, the former passenger building has been preserved and renovated.

EFFETS DE LUMIÈRE. L'ancienne gare de Bagnoles-de-l'Orne est en service de 1881 à 1991 sur la ligne de Briouze à Couterne en Normandie (voir ancienne carte postale en PiP). Dans le cadre de la réhabilitation du quartier de la gare, l'ancien bâtiment voyageurs est conservé et rénové.

LICHTSPIELE. Der ehemalige Bahnhof von Bagnoles-de-l'Orne war von 1881 bis 1991 auf der Strecke zwischen Briouze und Couterne in der Normandie in Betrieb (siehe die alte Postkarte im PiP). Im Rahmen der Sanierung des Bahnhofsviertels wurde das ehemalige Bahnhofsgebäude erhalten und renoviert.

La "Porte Chaussée" d'une hauteur de 20 mètres est construite en 1380 le long de la Meuse. Elle était l'une des trois portes monumentales du grand rempart de Verdun. Elle sert de prison militaire à l'État de 1755 à 1860, et le pont-levis est détruit en 1880.

VERDUN BY NIGHT. The 20-metre-high 'Porte Chaussée' was built in 1380 along the Meuse. It was one of the three monumental gates in the big rampart of Verdun. It served as a military prison from 1755 to 1860, and the drawbridge was demolished in 1880.

VERDUN BEI NACHT. Das 20 Meter hohe "Porte Chaussée" wurde 1380 an der Maas errichtet. Es war eines der drei monumentalen Tore der grossen Stadtmauer von Verdun. Von 1755 bis 1860 diente es dem Staat als Militärgefängnis, und die Zugbrücke wurde 1880 zerstört.

"ABBATIA STORIA". C'est une création à travers de spectaculaires projections artistiques sur la Basilique d'Evron, un voyage visuel et poétique à la croisée de l’histoire et de l’art lumineux. La thématique met en avant la lumière comme fil conducteur entre l’art roman et le gothique. Voici une photo de la basilique en temps "normal".

Dans un tout petit village en Normandie (250 habitants), à 17h30, pendant tout le mois de décembre, des milliers de lumières s'allument toutes en même temps. C'est tout simplement magique de voir la colline se parer de ses habits de lumière.

TO MAKE DREAM YOUNG AND OLD ALIKE... In a little village in Normandy (250 inhabitants), at 5.30 pm during the whole month of December thousands of lights are lit all together at the same time, it's just magical to see the hill adorned with its garments of light.

UM JUNG UND ALT ZUM TRÄUMEN ZU BRINGEN... In einem kleinen Dorf in der Normandie (250 Einwohner) werden um 17:30 Uhr den ganzen Dezember über Tausende von Lichtern gleichzeitig angezündet. Es ist einfach zauberhaft, den Hügel in seinem Lichterkleid zu sehen.

Throughout December, this letterbox stands in front of the church in Bais, where children can post their letters to Father Christmas.

La maison à colombages de la reine Christine de Suède du 17ème siècle (appelée "Christinenhaus") est aujourd'hui utilisée pour des manifestations culturelles. La reine s'est arrêtée dans cette maison à la suite de la guerre de Trente Ans, lors de son voyage pour rencontrer le pape Innocent X (le monastère de Zeven était tombé aux mains de la couronne suédoise après la guerre).

THE HOUSE OF THE QUEEN. The 17th-century half-timbered house of Queen Christine of Sweden (known as the ‘Christinenhaus’) is now used for cultural events. The Queen stopped off at this house following the Thirty Years' War, on her way to meet Pope Innocent X (the Zeven monastery fell into the hands of the Swedish crown after the war).

DAS HAUS DER KÖNIGIN. Das Fachwerkhaus der Königin Christine von Schweden aus dem 17. Jh. ("Christinenhaus" genannt) wird heute für kulturelle Veranstaltungen genutzt. Sie machte im Anschluss an den 30-Jährigen Krieg auf der Reise zum damaligen Papst Innozenz X Halt in diesem Haus (das Zevener Kloster war nach dem Krieg an die Schwedische Krone gefallen).

The Mehde-Aue is a 20km-long tributary of the River Oste in Lower Saxony. It flows through the town of Zeven and is covered by buildings inside the town centre. It then emerges in daylight in the town park and continues to flow through the town forest. Some of the bridges are illuminated at night, but the river is also idyllic during the day (see PiP).

UN P'TIT COIN ROMANTIQUE A ZEVEN. La Mehde-Aue est un affluent de la rivière Oste de 20 km de long en Basse-Saxe. Elle traverse la ville de Zeven et est recouverte de constructions à l'intérieur du centre-ville. Elle sort ensuite à la lumière du jour dans le parc municipal et continue à s'écouler dans la forêt de la ville. La nuit, certains ponts sont illuminés, mais elle offre également une image idyllique pendant la journée (voir PiP).

ZEVEN - EIN ROMANTISCHES ECKCHEN. Die Mehde-Aue ist ein 20 km langer Zufluss der Oste in Niedersachsen. Sie fliesst durch die Stadt Zeven, wobei sie innerhalb des Stadtkerns überbaut ist. Im Stadtpark kommt sie dann ans Tageslicht und fliesst weiter in den Stadtwald. Nachts werden manche Brücken angestrahlt, aber auch tagsüber bietet sie ein idyllisches Bild (siehe PiP).

The municipal theatre in the castle park was built between 1888 and 1892 and is still in use. It is one of two Italian-style theatres in the department.

En quittant Portsmouth sur le ferry de nuit, j'ai pu profiter de cette magnifique vue sur la Tour Spinnaker (infos sur la tour ici). 2° PiP : carte postale scannée.

NIGHT MAGIC. Leaving Portsmouth on the night ferry I was able to enjoy this wonderful view of the Spinnaker Tower (information on the tower here). 2° PiP: scanned postcard.

Superbes illuminations pendant la période des fêtes, dès le soir Audierne s'est paré avec des couleurs changeantes sur les façades illuminées et les bateaux dans le port. Audierne est une commune de la Cornouaille, un paysage historique du département du Finistère, tout à l'ouest de la Bretagne. Située sur une presqu'île à l'embouchure de la rivière Goyen, c'est un village de pêcheurs avec une longue plage de sable.

Superb illuminations during the festive period, from the evening onwards Audierne dressed up with changing colours on the illuminated facades and boats in the harbour. Audierne is a commune in the Cornouaille, a historic landscape in the Finistère department in the far west of Brittany. It is located on a peninsula at the mouth of the river Goyen and is a fishing village with a long sandy beach.

Herrliche Illuminationen während der Festtage, ab dem Abend wurde Audierne mit wechselnden Farben geschmückt, an den beleuchteten Fassaden und den Booten im Hafen. Audierne ist eine Gemeinde in der Cornouaille, eine historische Landschaft des Departements Finistère ganz im Westen der Bretagne. Sie liegt auf einer Halbinsel an der Mündung des Flusses Goyen und ist ein Fischerort mit langem Sandstrand.
