Striding Edge is a classic, thrilling Grade 1 scramble in the Lake District, leading to the summit of Helvellyn. Known for its airy drop-offs and "knife-edge" arête, it requires a good head for heights and scrambling experience, but offers some of the most dramatic views in England.

Evening light at Castlerigg Stone Circle, Lake District.
Castlerigg is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles, with panoramic views and the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as a backdrop. A ring of 38 standing stones, it was probably built around 4,500 years ago, in the late Neolithic period.

A cloud inversion (or temperature inversion) is a stunning weather event where a layer of warm air sits above cooler air near the ground, trapping moisture and forming a low-lying "sea of clouds," often in valleys, while mountain peaks emerge into sunshine above. It's the reverse of the usual pattern where air gets cooler with altitude, creating spectacular views for hikers and photographers who can climb above the clouds.

The Honister Slate Mine in Cumbria is the last working slate mine in England. Quarrying for Westmorland green slate has been taking place in the area since the late 17th century. Apart from the mining it is also a popular tourist attraction in the Lake District National.
A great place to start the walk up to Fleetwith Pike from the start at 1178ft to the Pike at 2125ft just a nice days exercise.

The bottom of Sourmilk Gill Waterfall.
Sourmilk Gill is impossible to miss. It thunders down nearly 400m (1,300ft) of steep fellside from Bleaberry Tarn to Buttermere in one headlong cascade through the trees. When it’s in spate, you can appreciate its full power. During the 2009 floods it brought pink granite boulders the size of microwaves crashing down from Red Pike until it filled the channel beneath the footbridge.

Derwentwater, or Derwent Water, is a lake in the Lake District in North West England, immediately south of Keswick. It is in the unitary authority of Cumberland within the ceremonial county of Cumbria. It is the third largest lake by area, after Windermere and Ullswater.

Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, is one of the most northerly of the Cumbrian Mountains, in the English Lake District. It has six separate fell tops, of which the highest is the Hallsfell Top at 2,848 feet.
