Sindbad operates a range of services from UK cities which interlink passengers at key locations. Słubice is a border town from where further interchange takes place with services to many Polish destinations. This particular service operates three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays calling at Leicester (1100), Peterborough (1220), London (Victoria) (1530), Maidstone (1630), Dover (1700) arriving Słubice at 0750 the following day. (There may possibly be other intermediate points but the timetables I found just showed me the places quoted). Sindbad is a Eurolines partner.
Left is Albatross Sp. z.o.o. of Przemyśl, Poland 291 (RP 55891), a Setra S517 HD, working the 1000 Sindbad service from Nottingham (England) to Słubice (Poland). The scrolling destination display included the Eurobus name which Sinbad also has involvement.

Right is East Yorkshire Motor Services 2 (BF68 LCW), a new style Caetano Levante bodied Scania K410 new in November 2018, working the 0820 National Express service 449 from Mablethorpe to London (Victoria) where it was due at 1450.

David Slater (Spoddendale) has posted:

Europabus was a network of coach routes controlled by the Railways of Europe. Unlike Britain which had a countrywide coach service network most European countries did not have such networks and their railways provided trunk services fed by more localised road services. It was difficult for coach operators to set up point-to-point scheduled services like those that exist on the Eurolines network and other services like Flixbus today.

During the 1950s a small number of services were established between key European tourist centres which were aimed at travellers wanting the freedom to create their own itineraries.

In this extract from a 1980 Europabus leaflet a service from London (England) to Athens (Greece) is shown. (I don’t know for certain but I don’t think this was a through service and may have involved at least three different coaches - London-Dover/Folkestone; Oostende-Munich; and Munich-Athens).

Departing London on Friday evening the arrival in Athens was Tuesday afternoon. The first part of the journey was from London to Munich (Germany) taking around 23 hours. Passengers then stayed overnight in Munich on Saturday night. On Sunday travel was to Maribor (Yugoslavia/Slovenia), a journey of about 10.5 hours. On Monday and into Tuesday the journey continued Belgrade (Yugoslavia/Serbia) reaching Thessalonki (Greece) early Tuesday morning and and Athens mid-afternoon.

The northbound service departed Athens at mid-day on Thursdays arriving London on Sunday morning.

In later years the London-Athens route marketed by Eurolines involved coach travel to an Italian port connecting to ferry services for the onward journey to Greece.

(Note at bottom left that the leaflet was ‘Published by the British Railways Board’)

The sea crossing between Belfast port and Stranraer is with Stena Line (also referred to a joint operator) and passengers travel on the ferry as foot passengers. Different coaches are used either side of the water and do not make the crossing on the ferry. The section on the mainland between Stranraer and Birmingham is covered by Ulsterbus coaches outstationed in Stranraer. Ulsterbus 1603 (JAZ 1603), a 1996 Plaxton Première 320 bodied Volvo B10M-62, was seen on stand at the Europa Buscentre in Belfast at 0650 performing the first part of the service, the short 7 minute run to Belfast port. The coach also carried passengers travelling on the joint Ulsterbus/Scottish Citylink service 923 to Edinburgh. (The destination blind is totally incorrect. It carries service 300 which is that to Belfast International Airport).

The 920 overnight Belfast-London Eurolines service is first worked with a Ulsterbus Belfast based vehicle that provides the transport from the Europa Bus Centre at 1615 to the ferry port (arriving by 1645) to connect with the 1710 P&O ferry that arrives in Stranraer at 1855. A Stranraer based vehicle then leaves at 1930 for the overnight run to London arriving at 0600 the next morning. 109 (SCZ 7109), an Irizar Century bodied Scania, was seen in Victoria Coach Station, London. It was on layover all day before working back at 1830 service this evening. In time to come the coach on this duty covered a National Express London-Dover return trip during the day keeping it gainfully employed. Note the ‘Ulsterbus Tours’ fleetname with Translink logo above it and the ‘brought to you by National Express’ words by the rear wheel.

Ulsterbus covers the coach workings and on the mainland uses vehicles outstationed in Stranraer (Scotland) for the section between Stranraer ferry port and Birmingham. The sea crossing is by Stena Line, the coaches do not work a through service and another Ulsterbus vehicle covers the short section between the Europa Buscentre and the ferry port in Belfast. Today my trip to Birmingham was on board Ulsterbus 691 which was seen just before we left Stranraer at 0954. The bright red funnels of the ‘Stena Voyager’ can be seen in the background.

Ulsterbus outstations about six coaches at the Scottish port to work its own tours in addition to express services into England and Scotland in partnership with National Express, Eurolines and Scottish Citylink. I had a chat with the very ameniable driver, a Scot, who told me that a mechanic travels over from Belfast every so often to service the coaches and only in times of necessity do they (the vehicles) return to Belfast via the ferry. For the 1996 season there were three services worked in conjunction with National Express which were this Birmingham-Belfast day service (921), the London night service (920) plus a new one for 1996 to Nottingham via Preston, Manchester and Sheffield (924). The latter was short lived with Preston and Manchester subsequently transferred to the 921 which at the time of this photograph was non-stop (except for a refreshment break) from Birmingham to Carlisle (1530). Day service passengers from London travelled on the 0830 service 589 to Carlisle and changed there to/from the 921.
