The former Southern Finland County Jail continued to serve as a prison until 2002. After that, it was converted into a hotel. Parts of the building remained unchanged, such as the group cell shown here in the picture.

Das ehemalige Bezirksgefängnis Südfinnlands diente noch bis 2002 als Gefängnis. Danach wurde es in ein Hotel umgewandelt. Teile des Gebäudes blieben unverändert, so wie die hier im Bild gezeigte Gruppenzelle im Keller.

Bear cache upon a tree stump to store game in a place where bears and wolverines could not access it. The bear cache was accessed by a ladder. Bear caches were built in connection with seasonal housing where people resides from spring to autumn. This is from Petsamo, Lappland, the 1800s. (Captured in the Seurasaari People's park, Helsinki).

Bärensicherer Speicher auf einem Baumstumpf, um Jagdwild an einem Ort aufzubewahren, wo Bären und Vielfraße keinen Zugriff darauf haben. Der Zugang erfolgte über eine Leiter. Bärenverstecke wurden in Verbindung mit saisonalen Behausungen gebaut, in denen sich die Menschen von Frühjahr bis Herbst aufhielten. Der im Bild gezeigte Speicher ist aus Petsamo (Lappland) und etwas von 1800. (Aufgenommen im Seurasaari Volkskundemuseum, Helsinki.)

Puu-Vallila ('Wooden Vallila') is a district of Helsinki (Finland). Traditional wooden houses from the years 1910-1927 are situated there. In the 19th century, such wooden houses still characterised the cityscape of Helsinki. Puu-Vallila is one of the few areas where this wooden house milieu has remained unchanged until today. (Captured during a visit 3 weeks ago).

Puu-Vallila ('Holz-Vallila') ist ein Stadtteil von Helsinki (Finnland). Dort stehen traditionelle Holzhäuser aus den Jahren 1910–1927. Noch im 19. Jahrhundert hatten solche Holzhäuser das Stadtbild von Helsinki geprägt. Puu-Vallila ist eines der wenigen Gebiete, wo dieses Holzhaus-Milieu bis heute unverändert erhalten ist. (Aufgenommen bei einem Besuch vor 3 Wochen.)

Built in 1903 to a design by architect Usko Nyström. It was originally called "Hotel Cascade" because it was built near the famous Imatra Waterfalls.

Erbaut 1903 nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Usko Nyström. Ursprünglich hieß es "Hotel Cascade", weil es in der Nähe der berühmten Imatra-Wasserfälle erbaut wurde.
