I have not been on Ipernity for very long (just a little over a year) and I don't have an extensive gallery with photos "buried" in the distant past like many older members do. This was the first photo I uploaded on the platform, but never actually posted. I changed the date and visibility just so I could use it to "keep company" with everyone else while we wait for the uploading function to be restored.

So unfortunate to have all these technical issues crop up right in the middle of the promotion effort that had even begun to show some results! Hopefully, they will be fixed soon and we can go back to being the busy, lively community we normally are.

Italy is apparently doing a bit better on the COVID front, though we are still under a national curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as well as other limitations (more or less stringent depending on the region) and unfortunately the casualties are still heartbreakingly high.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend despite the restrictions and "see" you all on Monday!

With no snow or hoarfrost around here, I was looking for some alternative designs in white for my wintertime photography. It was only after I had this close up of the bark of a white poplar up on the screen that I noticed the white designs looked like fairyland creatures, little ghostly gremlins with eyes, limbs and pointy ears. It took me back to when, as a child, I was prone to seeing fairies, gnomes and goblins pretty much every time I stepped into the woods. Too bad we seem to lose that imaginific power as we grow up ... except maybe through photography! Or is it old age ? :)

While working my way through this autumn delight, I noticed the reflections from the window in the black bowl and thought they made an interesting combination with the bright red grains of the pomegranate.

To me, there is no summer without poppies. I particularly like the papery, ethereal textures of the wild poppies. Like the sprigs of wild grasses that seem to almost always accompany them, they dance in the slightest of breezes and in nearly every picture I take they get portrayed in a slight blurriness. This one was obliging enough to allow me to capture a bit of the details of its frilly black core.

Light and shadow on the iris leaves.
Can you pick the "odd man" out? I left it in the frame because I liked the notion that Nature can never be made to completely fit our standards.:)

Just to take your mind off the worries, here's a little mystery to solve! What did I photograph here? You already have one clue: since I am confined to the house along with the rest of my countrymen, this must be something that is in my home. I will add a second clue: Italians, Greeks and Spaniards might have an advantage in figuring this out, but I think also those who like to visit Italy for reasons other than the monuments and works of art should have a pretty good shot at it.

I will post a photo that contains the answer tomorrow night.

This is our third weekend in the StayHome era and I think I need to count my blessings: 1. I have a garden, not a big one and rather unkempt, but a place to get some fresh air, exercise (and photo ops!); 2. I have always enjoyed cooking and these days the simple pleasures of home cooking are an important source of comfort. It takes my husband up to 50 minutes in line to go grocery shopping, so this colorful bunch of produce struck me as being not only beautiful but downright "precious". I look at them and think back to my mom's wartime stories, where she would ride her bike for 30 + kilometres to get a single egg. We are definitely not to that point, but still, all of a sudden, I find this wealth of fruit and veggies movingly beautiful.

Just playing around with the empty shells of snails that don't make it through the winter. Photography helps to keep me sane even in the small, enclosed world that is our lot during this lockdown. Sorry if the subject matter is a bit repetitive, though. :)

Spring is by far my favorite time of the year and being confined at home at this time is undeniably a bummer. But really I should not complain, since I am one of the lucky ones who have a garden where I can still enjoy glimpses of Nature's awakening. In a restored building a window was closed off but the corniche was left in place. A nearby tree added a color matching, graceful wreath to complete the minimalist composition.

A Japanese quince bush all dressed up in its fiery red spring color. I love the waxy texture and showy hardiness of these flowers.
These grow right up against a garden fence on the street side, which allowed me to stick my camera between the fence posts and take a close up of a group of blossoms surrounded by a sea of their siblings.

Days of relentless rain half buried this bunch of colourful fallen leaves in mud, forming a kind of natural collage. Nature, the great Artist, using all of her materials to create a short-lived "painting"!
