Des rochers moussus, un amoncellement de blocs arrondis à la disposition chaotique, la verdure luxuriante, la curiosité et la beauté de ses rochers - c'est la forêt de Huelgoat (qui signifie "haut bois" en breton). Berceau de nombreuses légendes celtes, les lieux aux noms mystérieux font référence tantôt au roi Arthur, tantôt au diable ou à la Vierge, des rochers aux formes étranges, des menhirs… cela a toujours inspiré les récits populaires.

LEGENDARY FOREST. Moss-covered rocks, a jumble of rounded boulders arranged in a chaotic pattern, lush greenery, and the intrigue and beauty of its rocks – this is the forest of Huelgoat (which means ‘high wood’ in Breton). It's the birthplace of many Celtic legends, places with mysterious names refer sometimes to King Arthur, sometimes to the Devil or the Virgin Mary; strangely shaped rocks and menhirs… these have always inspired folk tales.

Moosbewachsene Felsen, ein Durcheinander aus runden Felsblöcken, das üppige Grün, die Faszination und die Schönheit seiner Felsen – das ist der Wald von Huelgoat (was auf Bretonisch "hoher Wald" bedeutet). Wiege zahlreicher keltischer Legenden. und Orte mit geheimnisvollen Namen, die mal auf König Artus, mal auf den Teufel oder die Jungfrau Maria verweisen, Felsen mit seltsamen Formen, Menhire … all das hat seit jeher die Volkserzählungen inspiriert.

Pour en arriver là, ça n’a pas été simple : en 1913, les hommes ont dû se remonter les manches et tiré fort pour hisser la statue de la Vierge Marie, lourde de 630 kg, en haut d’un chemin raide et escarpé. Depuis, elle n’en a pas bougé. Sur le 1er PiP on se rend bien compte comment elle domine le village, avec une vue magnifique.

RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE ROCK stands this statue of the Virgin Mary. Getting it there was no easy feat: in 1913, the men had to roll up their sleeves and pull with all their might to hoist the 630-kilogram statue of the Virgin Mary up a steep and rugged path. It hasn’t moved since. In the 1st PiP, you can really see how she overlooks the village, with a magnificent view.

GANZ OBEN AUF DEM FELSEN steht diese Marienstatue. Es war kein leichtes Unterfangen, sie dorthin zu bringen: Im Jahr 1913 mussten starke Männer sich die Ärmel hochkrempeln und kräftig ziehen, um die 630 kg schwere Marienstatue einen steilen und beschwerlichen Weg hinaufzuziehen. Seitdem hat sie sich nicht mehr von der Stelle gerührt. Auf dem 1. PiP wird deutlich, wie sie das Dorf überragt, mit einem herrlichen Ausblick.

Pour prendre cette photo, je me trouvais sur la passerelle du barrage de Saint Fraimbault, réalisé en 1975. Les eaux de cette retenue d'eau d’une superficie de 140 ha sont utilisées pour régulariser le cours de la rivière et d'améliorer l'alimentation en eau potable. La centrale hydroélectrique a été mise en service en 1984 et produit 4,5 millions de kWh. La retenue comprend la confluence des rivières de la Mayenne, de la Varenne et de la Colmont.

THE MAYENNE BEFORE THE DAM. To take this photo, I was standing on the footbridge of the St. Fraimbault dam, built in 1975. The waters of this 140-hectare reservoir are used to regulate the river’s flow and improve the drinking water supply. The hydroelectric power station came into operation in 1984 and generates 4.5 million kWh. The reservoir encompasses the confluence of the Mayenne, Varenne and Colmont rivers.

DIE MAYENNE VOR DEM STAUDAMM. Um dieses Foto aufzunehmen, befand ich mich auf der Fussgängerbrücke des 1975 errichteten Staudamms von St. Fraimbault. Das Wasser dieses 140 Hektar grossen Stausees dient dazu, den Flusslauf zu regulieren und die Trinkwasserversorgung zu verbessern. Das Wasserkraftwerk wurde 1984 in Betrieb genommen und erzeugt 4,5 Millionen kWh. Der Stausee umfasst den Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Mayenne, Varenne und Colmont.

MOROCCO TURNS GREEN. An open, verdant landscape stretches out between fields and old walls. Following a winter of exceptionally heavy rainfall, Morocco’s previously parched landscape has visibly recovered. Across large parts of the country, the dry steppe has quickly given way to green countryside. The effects are also measurable: the reservoirs have filled up considerably and some are now over 70 % full.

MAROKKO ERGRÜNT. Zwischen Feldern und alten Mauern erstreckt sich eine offene und ergrünte Landschaft.Nach einem Winter mit aussergewöhnlich viel Regen hat sich die zuvor ausgedörrte Landschaft in Marokko sichtbar erholt. In weiten Teilen des Landes ist aus trockener Steppe in kurzer Zeit wieder grüne Landschaft geworden. Auch die Folgen sind messbar: die Stauseen haben sich kräftig gefüllt und erreichen inzwischen teils über 70 % ihres Füllstands.

Les cascades d'Ouzoud sur trois paliers sont des chutes d'eau d'environ 110 m de haut (les deuxièmes plus hautes chutes d'eau d'Afrique après les chutes Victoria). Elles se trouvent à 1 060 m d'altitude dans l'Atlas au Maroc, à 150 km au nord-est de Marrakech. Elles se situent dans une vallée verdoyante de grès rouge, semblable à une oasis, plantée d'oliveraies, d'amandiers, de figuiers, et caroubiers. Au-dessus des chutes, on trouve une douzaine de petits moulins à huile traditionnels toujours en activité.

A SPECTACULAR SIGHT AND SOUND... The three-tiered Ouzoud Falls are approximately 110 metres high (the second-highest waterfalls in Africa after Victoria Falls). They are at an altitude of 1060 metres in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, 150 km north-east of Marrakech. They are situated in a lush, red-sandstone valley, resembling an oasis, planted with olive groves, almond trees, fig trees and carob trees. Above the falls, there are a dozen small traditional oil mills still in operation.

Built in the 1930s, it plays a vital role in irrigating farmland and supplying water to the region. But if you look closely, at the very back you can see Mont St Michel! But this one is only 5 meters high. It is one of the monuments in the Domagné miniature park. Here you can visit 13 French monuments in an hour: from Mont-Saint-Michel to the Basilica of Lourdes via the Pont du Gard, it's only a few steps away. You can discover them along the greenway of the Vallon stream.

UNE PETITE VALLÉE PITTORESQUE. Mais si on regarde bien, tout au fond on voit le Mont St Michel ! Mais celui-ci ne fait que 5 m de hauteur. Il est l'un des monuments dans le parc des miniatures de Domagné. Ici on peut visiter 13 monuments français en une heure : du Mont-Saint-Michel à la Basilique de Lourdes en passant par le Pont du Gard, il ne peut y avoir que quelques pas. Il est possible de les découvrir le long de la coulée verte du Vallon.

EIN MALERISCHES KLEINES TAL. Aber wenn man genau hinschaut, sieht man ganz hinten den Mont Saint-Michel ! Allerdings ist dieser nur 5 m hoch. Er ist eines der Monumente im Miniaturpark von Domagné. Hier kann man in einer Stunde 13 französische Bauwerke besichtigen: Vom Mont-Saint-Michel über die Pont du Gard bis zur Basilika von Lourdes sind es nur wenige Schritte. Man kann sie entlang der Grünalange des Baches Vallon entdecken..

17. OKTOBER – IST DER FRÜHLING ZURÜCK ? Es sieht aus wie Raps - ist es aber nicht. Was im Herbst draussen gelb im Feld blüht, ist die Zwischenfrucht Senf, der zur gleichen Pflanzenfamilie wie der Raps gehört. Übrigens : obwohl der Senf knallgelb blüht, heisst er "Weisser Senf". Das hat nichts mit der Blüte zu tun, sondern mit dem Samen, der ist weiss.

En ce moment, par chez nous, on voit souvent des champs bleus, parsemés de tournesols. Il s'agit de la phacélia, une interculture, que l'on plante après les moissons et avant la prochaine semence. C'est pour éviter l'érosion des sols, et ça garde l'azote. Et après on l'enfouit pour en faire un engrais vert pour la future culture de maïs.

FIELD IN FLORAL ATTIRE. At this time of year, here in our region, you often see blue fields dotted with sunflowers. These are phacelia, a cover crop that is planted after the harvest and before the next sowing. It prevents soil erosion and retains nitrogen. It is then ploughed in to act as green manure for the next maize crop.

FELD IM BLUMENKLEID. Zu dieser Jahreszeit sieht man hier in unserer Gegend oft blaue Felder mit einzelnen Sonnenblumen. Dabei handelt es sich um die Phazelie, eine Deckfrucht, die nach der Ernte und vor der nächsten Aussaat gepflanzt wird. Sie verhindert Bodenerosion und bindet Stickstoff. Anschliessend wird sie untergepflügt und dient als Grunddüngung für den nächsten Maisanbau.

A walk around Lake Bosméléac is a real pleasure. Covering an area of 72 hectares, Lake Bosméléac is a reservoir built between 1830 and 1842. It was designed to supply the Nantes-Brest canal, and to regulate the course of the river during summer low-water periods.

LE LAC PAR UNE RADIEUSE JOURNEE D'AUTOMNE. La balade autour du Lac de Bosméléac est un grand plaisir à faire. D'une superficie de 72 hectares, c'est un lac de barrage, construit entre 1830 et 1842. Il était destiné à alimenter le canal de Nantes à Brest, et à réguler le cours de la rivière lors des basses eaux estivales.

DER SEE AN EINEM STRAHLENDEN HERBSTTAG. Der Spaziergang um den Lac de Bosméléac ist ein grosses Vergnügen. Es ist ein 72 Hektar grosser Stausee, der zwischen 1830 und 1842 angelegt wurde. Er sollte den Kanal von Nantes nach Brest mit Wasser versorgen und den Flusslauf während des sommerlichen Niedrigwassers regulieren.

That came to my mind when I saw the sun rising above the fields in the haze. The song has been recorded by many artists, but for me, it's always Cat Stevens!

"LE MATIN S'EST LEVÉ COMME LE PREMIER MATIN". C'est ce qui m'est venu à l'esprit lorsque j'ai vu le soleil se lever au-dessus des champs dans la brume. Cette chanson a été reprise par de nombreux artistes, mais pour moi, c'est toujours Cat Stevens!

"DER MORGEN IST ANGEBROCHEN WIE DER ERSTE MORGEN". Das kam mir in den Sinn, als ich die Sonne über den Feldern im Dunst aufgehen sah. Das Lied wurde von vielen Künstlern aufgenommen, aber für mich ist es immer Cat Stevens!

...on one side you can see the 11th-century Romanesque-Byzantine church of Saint-Étienne de Baïgorry (1st PiP), and on the other, this beautiful panorama of the mountains and river. Along the river are typically Basque houses.

SUR LE PONT on voit d'un côté l'église Saint-Étienne de Baïgorry construite au XIe siècle dans le style romano-byzantin (1er PiP), de l'autre ce beau panorama sur la montagne et la rivière. Le long de celle-ci se trouvent des maisons typiquement basque.

AUF DER BRÜCKE sieht man auf der einen Seite die Kirche Saint-Étienne de Baïgorry, die im 11. Jh. im romanisch-byzantinischen Stil erbaut wurde (1. PiP), auf der anderen Seite dieses wunderschöne Panorama auf die Berge und den Fluss. Entlang des Flusses stehen typisch baskische Häuser.
