CAS outside 33 Moorland Road, Yate. Visited on the way home from Salisbury
This bungalow was bought new, directly from the builder, not long before (?) marriage, it was certainly the first marital home.
His parents and other members of his family lived across the road. Initially, CAS worked fairly locally and then commuted by train to Cheltenham and Bristol for work and "night school".

Looking across to No25. This was four houses with similar layouts.
At one time there had been the idea to build behind the camera's POV, this wasn't allowed - something to do with the flood plain and built up sub-surface materials.

CAS's fourth and final home as a married and family man.
He moved once more, to North Wales, soon after the passing of his wife.

All that was left of Spencer's, Melksham was this wall and the machine shops behind it. Now occupied by various small businesses. All the offices, including the tall block and the canteen were long gone by 2009.
CAS knew that Spencer's had gone, but seeing for himself just how little was left, made him sad. He did, however, regal me with a couple of stories as we drove away.

Lock 29 on the Kennet & Avon Canal - the start of the 16 lock staircase at Caen Hill.

(Locks 22 to 50 take around 5 hours to navigate - good job there is a mooring area at the top which can take about 24 full length narrow boats)

Salisbury Cathedral [ the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary ] with the towering spire - all 404 ft of it and the tallest in Britain. Viewed from the North East.The scaffolding means that some restoration work in progress (imaged in 2009)

"Little Thatches" in Stratford-sub-castle.
This cottage was occupied by my great-aunt Vera Brickell, in the years between retiring from her job as the cook/housekeeper and her demise in 1989(?). I remember staying there - at least once in the room behind the little upstairs left hand window; not a square corner, nor was the floor quite level.
Aunty Ve taught me, and my brother, a good deal about cookery and household management, as she had already done with my mother and her sister.

After visiting Old Sarum, we went over to Avebury for lunch and a look at the Stones.
CAS and I had a look in the Andrew Keiller Museum. I was very impressed by the restoration work to the timbers (3 of 3 images).

In the Andrew Keiller Museum. I was very impressed by the restoration work to the timbers, including the bast of this post, some neat joints preserving as much original material as possible. (2 of 3 images).
