Lake Bracciano is a lake of volcanic origin in the Italian region of Lazio, 32 km (20 mi) northwest of Rome. It is the second largest lake in the region (second only to Lake Bolsena) and one of the major lakes of Italy. It has a circular perimeter of approximately 32 km (20 mi). Its inflow is from precipitation runoff and percolation, and from underground springs, and its outflow is the Arrone.

Ingredients for LIMONCELLO:)
ENJOY.

Fresh lemons
sugar 21 oz.
Pure alcohol at 200°F – 2 cups
Water 3 cups

Wash the lemons carefully and peel them. Place the peels into a glass bottle or jar and pour in the alcohol. Close it tightly and let it infuse for 30 days, in a dark environment and at room temperature.
After one month, take out the peels and start preparing the syrup: combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil without stirring. Boil for 15 minutes, then turn off the stove, pour the syrup in a jar and let it cool down.
Stir the alcohol mixture into the syrup, strain into jars, and seal each one with a cork. Let the mixture age for 40 days at room temperature.
After 40 days, take the jars, shake them to mix the syrup and then strain into a glass bottle. Place the bottled liquor into the refrigerator or into the freezer.

Keep it somewhere cool and dry.

The Roman emperor Tiberius, famous as the first successor of Augustus, chose Sperlonga to build a very special villa on the seaside and in a cave.

For years the villa had been forgotten and for this reason it has kept some of its treasures that can be seen today in the museum.
The discovery of the villa is almost accidental: it was 1957 and the engineer Erno Bellante was undertaking construction of the Via Flacca near Sperlonga.

A treasure was extracted from the sand of the Antro di Tiberio (Caveof Tiberius). The large circular basin was filled with thousands of marble fragments, now exposed in the Museum near the Villa: these portrayed the assault of Scylla to Odysseus' ship, the blinding of Polyphemus, the theft of the Palladium and Odysseus lifting Achilles's corpse.
The works have been attributed to Rhodian sculptors Agesander, Athenedoros and Polydoros, and are thought to be the same authors of the group of "Laocoön and His Sons" (as attributed by Pliny the Elder).

During large scale restructuring work in the Augustan Age, the cave was left partly natural but also developed to house a circular pool linked to other external pools.
The pond was fed by natural springs and salt water from a coastal lake. A device was also built to lift water from the lake and fill various compartments where prized fish were able to breed. All very showy.
The interior of the cavern was decorated with a fine range of marble statues, mosaics made of glass and the famous monumental sculptures inspired by the Ulysses.

Sperlonga is a coastal town in the province of Latina, Italy, about halfway between Rome and Naples.
Located near the Via Appia, but also on the edge of the Pontine Marshes, Roman Spelunca (Latin for cave or grotto) was originally only known for the grotto on the coast, after which it was named.
After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, in the 6th century, the ruins of the imperial residence served as refuge for local people. Later the population began to move to the nearby promontory of St. Magnus, in order to escape the unhealthy marshes and the Saracen attacks. The danger posed by the Saracens is made clear by the presence of many watchtowers all along the coast to Gaeta. In 1534 the small centre was destroyed by the Ottoman fleet under Barbarossa.
