The beautiful Chirk Castle formal gardens

This castle looks good from afar, perched on a nice hill with fine grounds of lawns, meadows and woodland. Here we see a glimpse of the 5.5 acre gardens that sit behind the castle. The Pip (previous photo) being from the same spot in the opposite direction looking at the hawk house. Described as being a garden for all seasons, my photos attracts a vote for Springtime.

The formal gardens include, a topiary, rose garden, statues, a main avenue, Hawk house, a Ha Ha, Pleasure ground wood, shrub garden, pond and stumpery. Phew!

A Mallaig Sunset

This is a view from our holiday cottage window towards the Small Islands and the Isle of Skye. Each evening we sat for above an hour watching the sun go down almost at the centre of this scene. We see here on the left The Island of Rum, then with a bigger space than it appears here from the centre (Point of Sleat) , the Isle of Skye. There is a big gap between the two islands. If I went wider angle here we would also see the Island of Eigg to the left of Rum and further on the right, the rugged Torridon Mountains of Skye.

After passing the small herd of Belted Galloway bullocks and deciding that we would have our picnic further along the lake, we looked back and saw this very nice scene. I liked the ochre coloured ferns contrasting with the blue sky and water here.

Even the cold wet weather does not dampen down my spirits as I view this scene from the Coniston boating centre looking NE. The light seems to make the grass look brighter and the tree reflections a little magical.

We are at Rochdale Town Hall and as you can see, dancing can be a serious business :) A first time for us here in the fabulous old town hall of our neighbouring town Rochdale. We are in the great hall at the start of this afternoon dance accompanied later by drinks and small cakes. The hall was soon to get much fuller. The PiP shows from almost the same spot to the opposite corner and shows a giant mural depicting the signing of the Magda Carta by King John in 1215. Another PiP shows the incredible roof.

Rochdale Town Hall is a Victorian-era municipal building in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. It is "widely recognised as being one of the finest municipal buildings in the country", and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

A most enjoyable stroll around the bottom of our Chew Valley near Dovestones reservoir cannot help but be endearing. An obvious 3-shot HDR render here gives us a slightly painted effect but that is how it felt in real life as well. Well worth getting my boots wet and muddy for, I think.

When I saw this tree against the sun and with a backdrop of woodland charm I felt as if I could hug it! I have always loved trees – the sight, feel and smell of them fills me with the joys of our earth.
This is another from the bottom of our Chew Valley and I cannot make any excuse for having had captured scenes from here before and sharing them with you –but you know –I cannot help it!!!

It can be a colourful world. Without the figure this could be looking up or down a number of floors. In fact it is only someone's idea of brightening up a snack eating area on board the Cruise ship: Marella Discovery. Just below each 'window here is a personal eating cubicle with table and chairs.

Just about 5 miles west of Happisburgh is the small seaside village of Mundesley. Another village with an eroding coastline but with an attempt to entice families to its very large beach with a long row of colourful beach-huts. Just in front of the huts is a walkway but as we can see, one can walk and sit above them too.

A golden oldie here from near Colchester in Essex, July 2007.

We were staying near these Backwaters, and on this beautiful evening decided to take a walk from the nearby Beaumont Quay along one of the many backwaters. We finished up here at Landermere Wharf (Quay) just as the sun was setting behind the trees and water. A local young lady was sat on the fence and a discussion ensued ending up with this powerful photo.
The backwaters ran from the sea just to the south of Harwich and was used as a main thoroughfare for barges taking cargos such as flour to and manure from London. When we were here, it was being used as a semi-permanent home for many old barges and cruisers now house-boats.
Taken on my old Canon Ixus 500, and originally posted on Panoramio in Feb 2008

A view of the western corner of this big Bay on Jersey with these colourful wind shelters. In the distance we see St Brelades’s parish church with the old Fisherman’s chapel to its left. A unique place that we were to visit shortly after taking this.

A walk around one of our local reservoirs, Piethorne, is always a pleasure, especially in springtime when the bluebells are out. We have actually missed the best of this years crop already as all these are now finishing. Anyway, enjoy what you see here with me and just imagine that sweet unmistakeable scent

A rare chance to grab almost a duplicate of a shot I took in 2014. A high local view in snow and warm light showing what is really a private drive and garden with a view towards my hometown of Oldham. It would have been nice to have more snow but I must be thankful for small mercies.

As the sun dips over the horizon and we move into the blue hour we are treated to a scene of tranquillity reminding us of days long past.

This taken in Suffolk some time back now.

This was posted here for this month CWP competition (The Blue Hour) but on reflection was a little too red for that and so here it is for you now.

UFO over Saddleworth

Minutes after taking the photo in the PiP I was amazed to see this cloud formation too. It is actually called a Lenticular cloud which are stationary clouds that form mostly in the troposphere, typically in parallel alignment to the wind direction. They are often comparable in appearance to a lens or saucer. Nacreous clouds that form in the lower stratosphere sometimes have lenticular shapes.

The second PiP shows the same formation a few minutes later, which to me, looks a little more like a UFO.

Of course I could be wrong about it being a cloud and it really was a giant UFO (˚◡˚)

In many ways I know that I am lucky, inasmuch I can see the sun coming up above the horizon in the east from my bed. Most of the time here in the NW of England I only see the greyness of rain-laden clouds but on this morning I was greeted by this wonderful sunrise. The pointed cloud changed in moments from a mountain to a castle amongst a mountain range sat on a molten lava bed.
