Bridgwater Bay Lifeboat and BARB Rescue Hovercraft jetty at Burnham on Sea,

Captured in 16.9 large view if possible please! and four added notes!

The bay is part of the Bristol Channel, at low tide large parts of the channel become mud flats and sand banks due to the large tidal range of 43 ft (13 m)
Some tides come in so fast they are preceded by a large wave called a Bore, these are present on about 130 days in the year and they make a spectacular sight as it travels many miles up the River Parrett,

Having taken shelter while a winter afternoon storm passed, people continue the stroll along South Esplanade, Burnham on Sea, which sits in Bridgwater Bay, on the Somerset Coast!

Changing the date of world photography day may be a help, last year it rained hard and we managed a few shots from under an umbrella, this year the day has been overcast with very flat light and drizzle, had to wait until the very back end of the day to find light good enough for a few images,
This is our local beach on Bridgwater Bay at Burnham on Sea and this low tide image features the Lower Lighthouse with another lighthouse just visible on Flat Holm Island in the distance,

Shot in B&W because I foolishly had the 24-240 lens on the camera which really does not cope with low light like my usual 28-70 f4.

A January afternoon as the sun sets on South Esplanade, Burnham on Sea, At the point the River Brue flows into the River Parrett estuary before the combined waters enter into Bridgwater Bay,

Steep Holm Island is a bird sanctuary nature, reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, seen here through this mist from Steart on the Somerset Coast.
The island covers 48.87 acres (19.78 ha) at high tide, expanding to 63.26 acres (25.60 ha) at mean low water. At its highest point it is 78 metres (256 ft) above mean sea level.

Burnham Lower Light through the light mist of a September evening.
Bridgwater Bay at Burnham on Sea with the lower lighthouse on the beach and the slipway used to launch rescue hovercraft and lifeboats during higher tides, These are launched from the beach at low tide.
This is just a small part of the six mile (9.6km) beach between Burnham and Brean down !

Note 1, Brean Down is a promontory off the coast of Somerset, England, standing 318 feet high and extending 1+1⁄2 miles into the Bristol Channel

Note 2, St Mary’s Church in Berrow, (known as the church of the dunes)

By the number of images I post from here many will have deduced this is close to home!
Yet another shot from Bridgwater Bay his time from the Esplanade at Burnham on Sea,
The island behind the lower lighthouse is Steep Holm, A protected bird habitat. With the landscape of South Wales on the Horizon.

In 16.9 therefor a larger view will be better!

Bridgwater Bay at Burnham On Sea on a warm May evening, the late tide has receded leaving wet sand and water pools. while the lights from the countries shortest pier provide long shadows that illuminate the sea wall and battered fencing,

The Victorian style Pier, Built 1914 , 121 feet or 37 meters long.

Days end across Bridgwater Bay and the coast of South Wales!
The distant lights are, I think of Barry and Barry Island! Which is around 12 Miles across the Bristol Channel as the crow flies.

Shot in 16.9 therefore a large view may be best!

Evening Sun highlights the huge Sea Wall that helps keep the higher tides in Bridgwater Bay from flooding the town, at Burnham on Sea,

The wall is 1 mile (1.61 km) long with a height of 10ft 6 in (3.2 m) and during storm surges waves still overtop the wall,

The bench is the main focus however you do need to stand to see the Sunset, The sea wall has to be this high to cope with the vast tidal range,

A small but important fence on the River Brue at Burnham-on Sea, The image also shows clear evidence of the huge tidal range in Bridgwater Bay.

For an idea of the tides on the 6th April, Low water at 12.42pm was 0.6m and High tide at 06.42am was 11.6m a mean différance of 11m (36.08924 ft)

The Brue flows into the River Parrett just before it flows into the bay and out into the Bristol Channel

A pleasant mid-February afternoon at Burnham on Sea on the Somerset coast, The low tide has emptied Bridgwater Bay leaving the sandy 7-mile beaches to the dog walkers and sand castle builders.
The image also features Britain's shortest pier, built in 1911 at just 100ft (ca. 30 metres) long.
