The lamp post provides support to a collection of different signs. Working upwards is the Zipper timetable case, a no dog fouling sign, a Zipper bus stop, a fire hydrant sign and the way up high is a bus stop from an earlier era. <br /> <br /> Aldreth is surrounded by flat agricultural farmland and the many watercourses on the landscape create obstacles to travel so much so that access to the village is really only via one standard sized road from Haddenham 1.5 miles/2.4km to the north. There is a secondary route although that is via what is only a Fenland drove not much wider than a large car.<br /> <br /> The ‘Ely Zipper 1’ circular service runs Mondays to Saturdays starting at Ely (Market Street) travelling to Witcham, Haddenham, Wilburton, Stretham and Little Thetford returning to Market Street – a journey of 55 minutes. There are five full anti-clockwise journeys in the morning plus the first journey of the day which starts from Witcham. The photograph was taken from outside the Budgens Store in St. Andrew’s Street. The store later became Sainsbury’s for a time (before their larger store was built nearby) then later still became Wilko and then B&M).
