Plenty of small birds visiting the feeders today, but the red squirrel seems to favour the seed feeder around the other side of the house over the past few days. It was seen today, watching from nearby as the food supply was replenished.

Visit A on 26th July 2026 [Day 43] was captured in just nine images between 06:08:11 and 08:51:33. the first six in just over 21 minutes, with the last three were after 8am, with the final one at 08:51:33.
Strongly suspect that the weather had more than a little affect, it was quite wet overnight and into the early morning. Both the birds seen this morning, and the squirrel were somewhat damp !

The camera trap captured five images between 06:08:08 and 06:39:50, this squirrel is the one with a darker coat, which makes the pale tail tip stand out even more.
Weather this morning was rather dull, and there was some rain falling which - along with the current camera angle - probably reduced the number of visits.

Information plaque / harbour map on the Old New Quay at Whitehaven.
This quay pokes out into the outer harbour, and until the removal of the old "sea scouts" [?] building in 2018 was largely in-accessible to the general public.

A curved annex attached to the south-eastern corner of Norwich Cathedral, at the East end. It looks a bit like it might be the chapter house, although there's another on the north side ...
The building style is reminiscent of the decoration on Norwich Castle.

Another memorial bench / artwork on Redcar Prom.

{E2A - someone I knew fairly well in North Wales a few years ago, was known by the nickname "Cap'n Beaky"; Sadly, they died a year or so ago, so this bench reminded me of them.}

Needs a cushion if you are going to sit there for more than a few minutes !

The way in :- cross a bridge over the deep ditch [a dry moat] to the bailey gatehouse.

The Gatehouse is largely Norman in date [c1140], but the actual bridge & abutments are later, most likely dating to the 14th century - and there are many later additions & repairs.

The very low post & chain fence is to keep you out of the "moat" - the grass slope is not only very steep, but the dry grass is rather slippery.

Approaching the Keep, with the prominent forebuilding that gave access to the Great Hall.

Note the remains of the elaborate decorative arcading - which echoes the William Rufus Keep in Norwich.
Also, the ashlar blocks here look very similar to the Caen Limestone used in Norwich.

The visit on the morning of 7th July 2026 was only captured in three frames, between 06:52:56 and 07:09:53. The first two were "fluffy tail only" images, and the third was a nice side portrait.

E2A - about 11:00 another visit for the consumption of hazel nuts occurred. He stayed for some time chomping away ...

E2A2 - a further visit was observed at about 18:15 - again, feeding activity and then exiting stage leftv with a mouthful of peanuts.

The wonderful sound of White's Mammoth Gavioli is a 98 Key fairground organ which was originally built as a 112 Keyless organ in 1909. Reputed to be the largest built by Gavioli.
It was originally owned by the White Brothers of Cardiff. Disused by the 1930s it was at risk of destruction when rescued in 1954. It first appeared in preservation at the Chester-le-Street rally in 1956. [ www.facebook.com/groups/544929642209918 ]

The decorative "picket" fence keeps the curious form getting too close, this one is quite loud at times.
[There are a couple of benches quite a way further back for people to sit and listen if they want].

This made me chuckle ... it is very true

They asked some competitors in a yachting race [possibly the Fastnet, but I can't recall that detail] what was the tool they valued the most, and having WD40 / Duct Tape as the most important tool in the box was in many responses.
