Saturday 7 July 2012 (1630) – The Olympic Torch Relay was passing along Fornham Road, Bury St. Edmunds on day 50 of the 70 day long route. General traffic was held up as a result and Mulleys Motorways MX57 HDH is seen paused at the Railway Station during a temporary hold up when operating the 1620 town service M55. This me a chance to switch off the bus and see something of the proceedings as they passed by.

Saturday 7 July 2012 (1637) - The Olympic Torch Relay in Fornham Road, Bury St Edmunds on day 50 of the 70 day long route seen from the driving seat of Mulleys Motorways MX57 HDH working 1620 town service M55.

Up ahead is Mulleys MUI 6449, a Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SPD new in February 2000 to Lothian Buses (Edinburgh, Scotland) as their number 164 registered V164 EFS, operating the 1615 service 355 to Mildenhall which was one of the first vehicles to follow the convoy once the road was re-opened.

Running normally these services would have reached this point about 5 minutes after leaving the bus station so the 355 service was about 14 minutes late, the M55 about 9 minutes late.

The Relay was just turning left in to Tollgate Lane which was helpful for the 355 service turned right here and the M55 travelled straight on along Mildenhall Road.

The rear end of one of the two vehicles participating in the Relay can be seen. It was Stagecoach Red and White Wright StreetLite 43006 (CN12 ARZ) new in May 2012. The other vehicle leading was Van Hool Alicron T911 BT11 BUZ operated by Buzzlines of Lympne near Hythe, Kent which I believe was new to Cronin’s Coaches, Cork, Ireland in June 2011 registered 11-C-10162.

We had been following the Relay at walking pace from the Railway Station behind two vehicles participating in the Relay itself which were Stagecoach Red and White Wright StreetLite 43006 (CN12 ARZ) new in May 2012 and Buzzlines of Lympne near Hythe, Kent Van Hool Alicron T911 BT11 BUZ which I believe was new to Cronin’s Coaches, Cork, Ireland in June 2011 registered 11-C-10162.

‘Swimming against the tide’ was Simonds of Botesdale AE06 XSA, an MCV Evolution bodied MAN new in August 2006, heading into town as the 1505 service 304 from Diss scheduled to arrive at the bus station at 1635.
