Friday 3 July 1998 (approx. 1630) - County Bus and Coach Company (Arriva owned) PDL206 (R206 VPU) seen in Welwyn Garden City bus station when working Green Line service 724 from Heathrow Airport to Harlow.

It is a Plaxton Prestige bodied DAF SB220LC new in December 1997.

On the right is Sovereign Bus and Coach (G906 UPP), a Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes-Benz O 709D, new to Sovereign in November 1989. It wears Welwyn Hatfield Line livery, a company acquired by Sovereign in January 1990.

Approx 8 May 2001 (0755) – Arriva the Shires 3111 (L311 HPP) seen in the village of Aston when working the service 390 from Hertford to Stevenage. It was a Northern Counties Paladin bodied Volvo B6-9.9M new in February 1994 to Luton & District Transport – a company which, through various takeovers, came into Arriva ownership.

The front end carries Arriva corporate livery whilst the side is an overall advert for a local solicitors.

Saturday 21 September 2002 - Arriva the Shires 3089 (L133 HVS) in Stevenage bus station.

It is an Alexander Strider bodied Volvo B10B-58 that had been new to Buffalo of Flitwick (37) in November 1993.

Buffalo was taken over by LDT Limited (trading as The Shires) in 1995. LDT later became Arriva the Shires.

Saturday 21 September 2002 (approx. 0810) – Stevenage bus station.

Left: Arriva the Shires 2162 (P669 PNM), a Plaxton Beaver bodied Mercedes-Benz O 709D new in November 1996 to LDT Limited. LDT later became part of Arriva.

Right: We Care Travel Limited (Allen R Brown Transport?) R737 DBD, a Ford Transit mini-bus new 1997/1998 employed on the ‘Shephall Express’ service SE1. Started around 1999 the service linked Shephall and Stevenage town centre – a distance of about two miles. As can be seen from the destination display on the Arriva vehicle Shephall was also served by their buses so I presume the ‘Shephall Express’ fulfilled a need not provided on the Arriva town network.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1254) – Welwyn Garden City Bus Station with two Arriva buses and two Unō (Universitybus Limited) buses on site.

On the stand is Arriva 3557 (KX09 GYG), an Alexander Dennis Enviro300 new in September 2009, working the 1155 service 301 from St. Albans to Stevenage and Lister Hospital.

The Arriva bus just arriving was 3768 (LT63 UNM), a Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE new in September 2013), working the 1110 service 302 from Hemel Hempstead which should have got here at 1235. (and then return as the 1240 service which it didn’t as it parked up on The Campus a few minutes later). The tracker on the Bus Times website seemed to show that it ran out of service via the A414 to Adeyfield (Laverstock Green Road) timed there at 1355 (five minutes later that the service timetable). It then covered the 1430 service 302 from Hemel Hempstead to Welwyn Garden City (which appears to be what the duty regularly does).

The double decker is Unō (Universitybus Limited) 257 (YX67 VFY), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400D new in September 2017, working service 601 to Borehamwood.

A Unō (Universitybus Limited) single decker stands beyond.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1300) – Arriva 3768 (LT63 UNM), a Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE new in September 201, parked in front of the John Lewis Department Store in Welwyn Garden City.

The store was originally founded as Welwyn Stores Limited, the retail subsidiary of the Garden City Company, which opened in June 1939 just before the start of World War 2. As well as the retail business the property also featured 62 apartments and a Masonic Suite.

The bus had arrived at the nearby bus station at 1254 as the late running 1110 service 302 from Hemel Hempstead which should have arrived at 1235 returning as the 1240 service - which it didn’t.

After unloading at the bus station it moved and parked on The Campus as seen here. The tracker on the Bus Times website seemed to show that it ran out of service via the A414 to Adeyfield (Laverstock Green Road) timed there at 1355 (five minutes later that the service timetable) then terminating at Hemel Hempstead bus station. It then covered the 1430 service 302 from Hemel Hempstead to Welwyn Garden City (which appears to be what the duty regularly does).

Saturday 21 September 2002– A general view of Stevenage bus station. This bus station closed for town centre redevelopment in 2022 with the site becoming an public amenity area. A new bus station was opened a short distance away.

From left to right the buses are:

Saturday 27 May 2000 – Arriva Colchester 4305 (BAZ 7384) seen at RAF Mildenhall.

It is a Plaxton Paramount 3500LS bodied Leyland Tiger new to London Country Bus Services as a Green Line coach in August 1985 registered C210 PPE. (Fleet number STL10).
It has been fitted with a later style lower front panel.

It is an Alexander Dennis Enviro300 new in July 2009 to MK Metro - a company owned by Arriva from February 2006.
