Battersea Power Station from a train from Waterloo
These two photographs were taken while the endless wrangling over the power station's future was going on. These were the original chimneys that were essential parts of the building's 'Listed' status. When the reconstruction was being planned they were deemed to be unfit for continued use. The current ones are reproductions.

These two photographs were taken while the endless wrangling over the power station's future was going on. This is where an endless stream of barges and lighters came to be emptied of their cargoes of coal, to feed the furnaces of the power station.

The huge scale of the power station and its chimneys can be seen here, when it is compared with the people on the ground.
The viewing platform at the top of the right hand chimney is 109 metres from ground level. The lift to the top is named 'Lift 109'.

I have yet to find out whether the central spiral is made from parts of the station's original equipment or an artwork inspired by the electrical generation produced there. The rest of the interestingly shaped ironwork clearly is a collection of old working parts.

This sculptural centre of a small traffic roundabout may surround an underground car park ventilator. I can find no information about it on line. It doesn't seem to be regarded as an artwork, unlike the reclining orange female on the other side of the power station building.
