Replacing the Cape St George lighthouse , this one (at right) was erected in 1898 and first lit on 1 May 1899. It operated until January 1994, when it was replaced by the new solar powered LED light at left (and the site was de-manned - lighthouse keeper's house at right). The old light apparently is still lit for an annual Lighthouse Weekend in August of most years. As can be seen in the background, this is clearly at the entrance to Jervis Bay. View large. I've been pre-occupied recently with preparing my input to a display of paintings and photos called "North to South and In-Between". Two friends who have travelled extensively in the north polar area entered cyanotypes, photos and paintings. I provided some "In-between" photos from Australia and my talented daughter entered four Australian paintings. The "south" section (in the foreground here) was from my old Antarctic slides and a more recent digital image. The display opened yesterday and will run through May. Best viewed large. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

I recently posted a photo of a fence at Bombo (PiP). This is the seaward side of the headland at the end of the fence. It is interesting for its geology, with a distinct change in the rock type visible, even better seen large. Of course, it also makes a good wall, so Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

With a tower like this, the Anglican church in Kiama (opened in 1859) could almost be in England! Very appropriately, it's located on Church Point. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Out in the bush in southern NSW, this old bush hut features a corrugated iron wall. A good way to add a little colour is to let it rust. Happy Wednesday Wall everyone.

"Dunbar" memorial

The Dunbar was a timber three-masted ship. The following from the sign (also PiP) "The Dunbar was wrecked about 500 yards south of this spot in a heavy North East gale at night August 20th 1857. From a total of 122, there was only one survivor. This her anchor was recovered by local residents 50 years later, and is now set up in memory of the tragic event".

This site is at the top of the ocean cliffs on South Head of the harbour entrance. Maybe not a very Happy Wednesday Wall.

Hawkesbury wall

Taken on the Riverboat Postman tour on the Hawkesbury River near Sydney. The rocky wall overshadows the remains of the former Australian Navy ship HMAS Parramatta, the first of several destroyers from 1910. The ship was scrapped in 1928, so who knows how it finished up here! Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.
