This gate has been changed several times over the years. This design dates from 1901, although it was changed a bit after the bombing of Dresden and subsequent rebuilding. The original dates from 1530 and it was the gate to leave the city of Dresden to cross the Elbe.

The building dates from 1906 and it was the parliament building of Saxony until 1934. It was hit during the bombing raid on Dresden and rebuilt in a simpler style. It became the seat of two museums. After the Wende it was restored and now it is the seat of the Higher Regional Court of Dresden.
