The ground has been snow-covered since late November and we've had quite a bit more snow the last couple of weeks.  In December when this photo was taken we went through a period of freezing fog when everything was covered with hoarfrost and rime.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

The Snowberry Bush is native to our area and to a large part of the United States and Canada.  As far as I could find it is called "Snowberry" for the color of its berries, but could just as well be called that for the fact that its berries persist through the winter.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

Driving up to the visitors' center, which is over a mile in elevation (1700 m) it was raining and just cold enough that there was a covering of ice on everything including the cacti.  We stopped and took a few photos in the rain and then made a dash for the caves.  This Cholla cactus was one of the things we photographed since it seemed very odd to see cacti covered in ice.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

This year it has been much warmer and we've had much less snow.  I enjoyed photographing the ice but am not complaining about a milder winter.&lt;/div&gt;</description>
