Taken on a hike in the Sol Duc area of Olympic National Park whil on an extended trip there in 2015. The Sol Duc area is on the north end of the park west of the city of Port Angeles. There are hot springs, several campgrounds, another falls, some virgin forest and a place to watch the salmon along the Sol Duc Road.

The photo is from Lillian Ridge along the trail to Grand Lake in Olympic National Park. The trailhead is at the end of the Obstruction Point Road, a narrow gravel road that is usually note snow free until July. The flowers are a Potentilla (Cinquefoil) species. This area is one of our favorite places in Olympic National Park.

Taken while hiking at Blue Mountain in Olympic National Park. Blue Mountain is at the end of the Deer Park Road, a narrow gravel road on the north side of the park. The flowers are Milk Vetch.

The Hurricane Ridge Road is one of the most popular areas of Olympic National Park. It ends at a visitors' center with great views of the Olympic Mountains to the west. This photo was taken along the road at one of the viewpoints.

Lake Crescent is in Olympic National Park. The lake is twelve miles (20 km) long, 596 feet (182 m) deep and is west of Port Angeles on the northern end of the Olympic Peninsula. It is a great place for hiking and a favorite spot of ours for orchid hunting.

Dimick Lighthouse, Port Townsend

High on the bluff above the ferry terminal in Port Townsend is the Dimick Lighthouse. Port Townsend where it can be found is on the northernmost tip of the Olympic Peninsula and across the strait of Juan de Fuca from Whidbey Island.

The Cape Flattery Lighthouse is on Tatoosh Island at the entrance to Neah Bay. It has been deactivated for many years and is on the register of National Historic Sites.

Cape Flattery was seen and named by Captain James Cook in 1778 and is the westernmost part of the contiguous United States and at the northwestern extremity of the Olympic Peninsula.. A short trail leads from the road to several viewpoints, but is rather remote.

The photo is from Olympic National Park in Washington and from the visitors' center at the end of the Hurricane Ridge Road. Olympic National Park is a huge park with many different areas of interest, mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, rainforests, seacoast, beaches, huge trees and wildflowers, elk and deer, mountain goats, birds, waterfowl and many other things to see. Hurricane Ridge and the road to it are one of the most popular parts of the park.

We had planned on traveling to the Olympic Peninsula yesterday and today, but due to busyness, the price of petrol and general malaise, decided not to go. I am posting these photos of Ruby Beach on the west side of the peninsula instead.

The last time we were in the Olympics we made sure we watched the sunset at Ruby Beach on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. We had our evening meal there and then walked the beach waiting for the sunset.
