D-Day 80 Memorial Exhibition ‘For Your Tomorrow’ Stowe Gardens

"A memorial installation to soldiers killed in the D-Day landing on 6 June 1944 on display at Stowe Gardens. The large-scale art installation consists of 1,475 silhouettes of Second World War military personnel. The exhibition is installed in Stowe's Grecian Valley, which is around a 2000m (1.2 mile) walk from the Stowe car park. The People’s Tribute was created by community artist, Dan Barton."

I don't know the lady in my photo but I was pleased she was wearing red :-) Also, she was holding a dog lead but I think her dog must be hiding behind the tree :-)

This is the Eleven-Acre Lake in Stowe Landscape Gardens. It is not massively wide but for 'Sight and Sound' I think it is wide enough to allow me to use "The Water is Wide" by Karla Bonoff :-)

This is the Octagon Lake with Stowe House in the background.

The Lake kinda divides parts of the garden and I figure a tenuous link for 'Sight and Sound' would be "Across the Great Divide" by Nanci Griffith and Emmylou Harris :-) This song was written Kate Wolf.

This is the River Styx in Stowe Landscape Gardens. I saw the feather approaching so I waited until it got into the frame before pressing the shutter...............

Okay, that's not actually true!! I had previously picked up the feather. I thought it would add a lttle bit of interest to my photo so I dropped it into the water :-)))

I initially thought this was three peoples sitting on this bench but clearly it is a dog in the middle and clearly the lady loves the dog very much :-)

A slightly tenuous link for 'Sight and Sound' but it is a 'Love' song :-)

The song, written by Joan Baez, features on her 1972 album "Come from the Shadows". One of my fave albums and, in my opinion, the song has to be one of the most beautiful love songs ever written :-)

HAPPY FENCE FRIDAY, ALL

I guess these two peeps are still in love :-) And, a love song that comes to mind is "When You Say Nothing At All" written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz. It was recorded by Keith Whitley. Tragically Keith Whitley passed away 30 years ago today (9 May 1989) at only 33 years of age from alcohol poisoning. Keith was just starting to record the songs he had always wanted to record and he was starting find the success he so richly deserved.

Often when walking around Stowe you can stop to admire the view and it is almost silent.....maybe just the sound of birds singing :-) Leads me to think of Pentatonix's version of "Sound of Silence" :-)

This is the Rotunda in Stowe Landscape Gardens that includes a statue of Venus, the Goddess of Love. Therefore, for 'Sight and Sound', I have chosen "Story of Love" by The Desert Rose Band. This song is on their 1990 album "Pages of Life", one of my all-time fave albums :-)

It's not often that I get the chance to try some panning shots when sheep seem to be having a race :-))

I was also thinking about my next 'Sight and Sound' upload.......and, for some inexplicable reason, the track "Home Run King" came to mind :-)) This real fun song was written by Gene Clark and featured on Gene's "Two Sides To Every Story" album from 1977. Love the backing musicians on this track. Especially Jerry McGee on lead guitar, Doug Dillard on banjo, Al Perkins on Pedal Steel Guitar and Emmylou Harris on vocals :-)

I always get a 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' when I go to Stowe Landscape Gardens :-)

One of my all-time fave tracks is "Peaceful Easy Feeling" performed by The Eagles. When, recently, I came across a live version of this song by Kate Wolf I was stopped in my tracks!! Absolutely love Kate's version :-) Such a tragedy that Kate was taken from us in 1986 having succumbed to leukemia after a long battle. Kate was only 44 years of age.

Some beautiful comments on YouTube,

"Beautiful melodies are more obvious at this pace and Kate's voice is sublime. For those of you who find it too slow (and it's a good point) maybe after a long day, a tumbler of good scotch whisky and just let the sun go down. Try it. R.I.P. Kate."

"EVERYONE CAN CHOOSE SOMETHING THEY'VE LEARNED HERE IN SSC AND TAKE A PHOTO USING THIS TECHNIQUE. YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHY YOU LIKE USING THE TECHNIQUE".

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, EVERYONE :-)

Despite the best intentions I often take photos with the camera at 6 feet off the ground looking straight ahead :-)

The last challenge (Looking Up) made me stop and think about my photography a bit more. I have started to spend more time studying the scene/subject before pressing the shutter. And, I've been taking quite a few shots looking up!

I got a stiff neck taking this shot and, in addition, I tried to include a few diagonal lines :-)
