It’s a nursery rhyme book with few very pictures - quite unlike anything published for children today - but I was very fond of it, and returned to the color plates to study them countless times as a young child.
134/365

Hello!
Thanks for the invitation to post this illustration to the group. I’m happy to do that - except I don’t remember this particular nursery rhyme having a tune. I think this was just one of the “Spoken Word” ones!
I actually remember many of the nursery rhyme tunes - probably helped by singing them to my kids - and working with kids for many years.
Please feel free to remove if this doesn’t qualify!

This scene shows the grandmother coming to fetch Clara, who unbeknownst to her, as learned to walk for the first time, with Heidi's help.
I colored a lot of the pictures - using either watercolor or crayon. This one appears to be all watercolor.
Most of them were done in 1966 - I was 11/12.

In true Brothers Grimm fairy tale fashion, this lovely picture depicts the good queen showing the youngest brother twelve coffins that her husband has had built to put him and all his brothers in once they have been successfully murdered.
This book was made and printed in Italy by Fratelli Fabbri Editori, Milan for English publishers and then published in Australia. The illustrator is Cremonini.
It was given to me as a birthday present when I lived in Rayleigh, Essex but I don't remember who gave it to me. Possibly my aunt. Or our next door neighbors.
I loved it.

This picture shows their discovery of the Psammead, a "Sand Fairy." He's a miserable, cross creature who is duty bound to grant their wishes, but somehow, no matter what they wish for, things go wrong.

Nesbit. A childhood favorite of mine. You have to look past the Edwardian sexism, but they're wonderful stories.
This picture shows their discovery of the Psammead, a "Sand Fairy." He's a miserable, cross creature who is duty bound to grant their wishes, but somehow, no matter what they wish for, things go wrong.
</media:text>

Interestingly, it says "character created by Honoria Plesch," but has a different author and illustratiors. I didn't even know they were 'creating" characters back then.
The stories are by Diana Marr-Johnson. The illustrators are Janet & Anne Grahame-Johnstone.
The stories feature Rainbow, a magical being, who often, not always, appears in water drops to come to the aid of people in trouble.
I never knew anyone else who had this book, but perhaps I'll discover them now!

Seredy's father wrote about this area, (the plains of Hungary) recording the customs - and much of what she writes about are things she remembered from being with him there.
Apart from one chapter which reviles gypsies with every cliche you can name, it's a great book.
I remember my mother loving this one, too.
It takes place on the Hungarian plains in the years before WW1. There was also a sequel called "The Singing Tree," which I read, but don't remember well.
