Dispersing cloud sea climbing to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme on the Tour de Mont Blanc. The same clouds had been raining on us an hour or so earlier.

Himba child checking the outside of his home. Northern Namibia. This is a typical image of African poverty, but it is worth mentioning that the same child had only just stopped playing with his friends and probably having as much fun as his more materially wealthy western peers.

Kanchenjunga (8586m) at sunset from Sandakphu, Sikkim. This viewpoint is an ideal place to view the mountain in the setting sun, although a little chilly at 3663m. The same cloud had been raining on us earlier in the day, so we paid our respects to the mountain gods for allowing us this fabulous view.

Kanchenjunga (8586m) viewed from Sandakphu, looking towards Sikkim. The clear air is no doubt helped by the altitude - 3630m. Just around the corner (or over a small mound) you can also get a view of Everest, but the cloud wasn't as good in that direction and it is much further away.

Best viewed large to see more detail - there's a red-robed monk in there somewhere.

Close up of the summit of Cerro Torre (3128m) - a seriously vertical bit of rock!

The 'mushroom cap' is peculiar to these mountains. It is composed of aerated frost deposited from the moist and very frequent winds that blow over the summit.

Amazing fiery dawn alpenglow on Cerro Torre as the clouds rapidly gather around it. Well worth getting up before 5am for!

No PS saturation trickery here - this is as close to the slide as I can manage, although it helps that I was shooting with Velvia.

Blue water, ice and sky. The Peritio Moreno glacier up close is spectacular.These ice walls are around 60m high and advance at an average of 2m per day, but melt at almost exactly the same rate too.
