Catamaran & Hovercraft

The hovercraft is on route from the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth and the catamaran is travelling in the opposite direction. Best viewed large!

This was taken just outside the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, with the. town of Gosport in the background. The tower in the background is the old Royal Navy Submarine Escape Training Tower (SETT), which was used from 1954 to 2020. Training is now done elsewhere.

The Fire Station closed in 2020 and was about to be demolished. It was instead bought by a local who used to be a fireman based there. It is now a thriving bar and brewery.

House on the waterside, Topsham, Devon

Topsham has a maritime history tied to the 17th and 18th-century wool trade with the Netherlands. Many of its buildings were constructed by wealthy merchants using small Dutch bricks imported as ship ballast, and some have Dutch style gables like this one at the waterside.

Chichester Guildhall

The Guildhall, Chichester, West Sussex. Taken in Priory Park in harsh sunshine back in November 2025.

Although called the Guildhall, this building is actually a Franciscan ecclesiastical building from the 13th century, now used as a wedding venue.

The Garrison Church, Southsea, Hampshire

With a statue of Admiral Lord Nelson in the foreground. Taken back in May this year.

The church was built around 1210-1214, initially as a hospital and shelter for the poor and travellers. Then from around 1540 it became an armoury and storehouse for the military. In the 17th century it became a chapel for the military garrison.

It was restored in the 1860s, but then in WW2 it was bombed and the nave roof was destroyed. The nave is now just a shell, but the chancel is still a consecrated space.

St Hubert's Church is a Grade 1 listed building built around 1053. It sits in the middle of a field in the South Downs National Park.

These are situated on the sea front at Southsea, Hampshire.They date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and have been Grade II listed for their artistic, architectural and historical interest.

Bosham Quay, West Sussex

A view of Bosham Quay, West Sussex, taken on a cold but sunny day, earlier this week. The building with the red roof is called the Raptackle.

The Raptackle is an 18th Century Grade II listed warehouse, built on red brick pillars on one side and faced with tarred weather-boarding. It was built to store and make nets and ropes for the local fishing industry. It was also the home of Bosham Sea School. Nowadays, it is used by the local sailing club.

This is in 16:9 format, so probably better viewed large. Thanks!

Taken in my local country park last week..........the Beacon is a folly built in 1830 in the style of a Tuscan order temple. It was restored circa 2017.

The is another shot in the PiP taken from a slightly different perspective.

Slipper Mill Pond, Emsworth

The Slipper Mill and Pond was opened in the 1870s and ceased working in 1936. The mill store has been converted into houses (which you can see in the PiP) and the mill pond is now surrounded by houses and a busy main road.

The pond is a haven for all sort of birds other wild life.

This was taken this morning and as you can see it was fairly sunny, but still cold. After the photos, hot chocolate and chocolate fudge cake was consumed :-)))

This was captured in 16:9 format and so is probably best viewed large!
